Beautiful fairie women of Celtic folklore who take on human lovers and drain them of life.

    Short summary describing this concept.

Often also spelled "lhiannan shee" (which gives some idea of the correct pronunciation), their name means "lover of the tomb", reflecting both the fact that they provide love AND the eventual fatal outcome. They are said to inspire their lovers to great acts of art and poetry, but they drain them of life... hence the allegedly short lives of Gaelic poets!
