I've actually heard about this game through G4 back when they had a show that just ran videos showing different games. They weren't quite trailers. But I've never played it. From what I could gather it was Zelda-ish with anthropomorphic animals fighting each other.
Never thought I'd see it again though.
Not me and I grew up in the PS2 era. I played many games like this as a kid but not Legend of Kay. It certainly couldn't have been well marketed because I was in the target audience and don't remember it.
I've never played it, but I remember it quite well. Where I'm lost is that this seems right up there with Cel Damage in terms of super fucking random HD remasters. Why bring it back? Who was asking for it? Did they just crunch some numbers and somehow determine there was an audience or something? It just all seems so strange.
At first glance I thought you said Legacy of Kain, and I was wondering who HASN'T heard of that.
Legend of Kay though? No idea what it is.
Without looking I'd say it was a PS2 platformer like Spyro or more like Banjo Kazooie with a Tiger (or some sort of cat), right? Also, he fought rats (weasels?) along with other dis-likeable animals and was friends with Pandas...or other nice fuzzy creatures. He was like a samurai with armor, but it was more of a vague pan-asian feel to the fantasy world. And, that is all I think I know or recall.
Nope, never heard of it, kinda weird that there are these games getting HD re-releases that seemingly no one asked for. Money laundering scheme or something more sinister? You be the judge of that.
I have played this game. It plays a lot like Sly Cooper but with less stealth and a greater emphasis on combat. Combat was in the vein of other ps2/1 adventure platformers (Jak & Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro), and it had something similar to the "Armour" upgrade from Ghosts n' Goblins. Never finished it.
I remember the game as fun.
Of mildly maybe spoiler-y trivial interest: the pandas had a resistance group called "Avalanche".
Wow, surprised I never heard about this. It looks like it would've been right up my alley back in the day.

Samurais wear armor.
I picked Not Me, but then I saw the screenshots and remembered it. I never played it but I remember that it reminded me of T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger.
No thank you, sir.
I had not heard of it previously, but here we all are talking about it. Marketing success!
I don't know, man. In the time it took me to scroll down here to reply, I've already forgotten the game's title...
Nope. At first glance it kinda brings to mind Ty The Tasmanian Tiger. And holy balls they made a lot more of those games than I expected.
First heard about it a few years ago when I was looking for lesser known games of the era I missed. Nearly bought it a few times, and then I just forgot about it until this remaster was announced.

Yeah, it was that sort of thing. It wasn't bad, but it's an incredibly bizarre choice for a remaster. My theory is that Nordic is just trying to squeeze as much cash as they can out of their recent acquisitions.
They also recently put out an Arcania port for PS4/Xone which is fucking hilarious.
Yes. It was released as a budget game on the PS2 in the UK. It's not very good. It's a kind of Jak & Daxtery (first game) Zelda-ish kind of thing with terrible voices, bad visuals and a sorta interesting combat system where you have to bounce between enemies to keep your combo up. I found it to be a pretty miserable experience overall and only played maybe two or three hours of it.
It doesn't really matter how many people played the original game. Any product on the market that (a) has a heroic talking animal in it, or (b) evokes Zelda in some fashion, will draw strong interest (and by extension, enthusiastic support) from all over the internet. With any luck, it will be one of the top-rated games in the Wii U shop about 3 days after launch.
I think it's a sharp move by Nordic, actually.
What the hell man, knowing about games that came out?! Who the fuck even does that?
Yeah, I've heard of it.
I actually heard that it was an underrated PS2 game so when I searched on Amazon I saw that it was being rereleased and decided to wait. Have yet to take the plunge though...
I do vaguely remember it being one of the games in that mid-2000's stream of B-Tier platformers along with stuff like Vexx, Tak, and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
It's interesting that they're trying to bring this back. During the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era there were tons of these kinds of games, but now no one is making B-Tier 3D Platformers anymore. As weird as it is, maybe it'll have a shot at somehow being a mild success, since it's filling a niche that barely anyone is even attempting to take a stab at. Whether anyone even cares about this sort of thing anymore remains to be seen.
@chaser324: vexx is amazing
@mattyftm: Y'know what, that's the game I thought we were talking about too. I guess _blank of _blank and the Kay/Kri at the end of each. They're both third person action platformers that came out around the early 00's too.
I remember the box art from when it was new. Like most, I never bothered with it, but there are much worst choices of games that could get remastered. I'm more curious at just what market they're trying to hit with those platforms. PS4 and WiiU, and it's not Japanese? Must have a very narrow target to be leaving the Xbox One out of this.
