It always makes me wince when qualitative descriptions are used by developers and publishers when marketing games. Whilst I understand the necessity to promote those aspects of the experience that will likely attract the most attention, any talk about how impressive the world, or in the case of Dontnod’s Life is Strange, how well written the story is, has alarm bells sounding in my head almost immediately. The presumption and arrogance of some marketing guru telling me how I should think o...

Life is Strange(ly pretty good) 0

Life is Strange is an episodic puzzle adventure game from DONTNOD entertainment. Life is Strange is my first venture into the style of adventure games that TellTale have popularised over the last 7 years.Blackwell Academy You play as Max Caulfield, a photography student attending the prestigious fictional high school Blackwell Academy in Arcadia Bay, Oregon. The game starts off with Max in class, snapping out of a daydream after witnessing a giant cyclone wreaking havoc on the area and making it...

Heartwarming coming of age high school drama with a twist! 0

It is like the best bits of Alan Wake, Dreamfall Chapters, and Walking Dead on top of an engrossing time travel high school back-to-home-town coming of age mystery drama. There might have been only one episode released so far, but damn is it impressively substantial that I felt I got a whole indie movie's worth of character development and progress out of it. While you navigate through Max's journey of figuring out her career in photography, there are also other characters' stories from big to sm...

    Life Is Hella Strange 1

What an interesting little find this game (Episode 1) was. Since the first season of The Walking Dead from Telltale, I have fallen in love and been on the lookout for adventure games. Not quite ready to dig into some of those trial and error click-fests that are the old Lucas Arts and Sierra games that I could never beat as a child (Torin’s Passage, I’m looking at you); I recently fell in love with The Wolf Among Us, the first episode’s of Game of Thrones and Tales From The Bo...

Life Is Strange Ep1 Review 0

DONTNOD’s latest effort should not really strike such a chord with me. It’s a story about the struggles of a young girl in college as she deals with douchebaggery, self-expression, and self-discovery. Oh, and time travel. I’ve never necessarily been a young girl in college dealing with any of those things, but this introductory episode really impressed. Or rather it almost does if it wasn’t for a couple of quite missteps. This first episode, entitled Chrysalis, follows Max...

Stumbles At The Finish Line, But Still On The Winner's Podium 0

If you have any love in your heart for choice-based narratives, from the "______ will remember that" style that Telltale Games popularized, to the dialogue tree and routes in some visual novels, or even the dialogue options to pick in Fallout 4, then Life Is Strange is worth your time for one mechanic alone: you can rewind time, however briefly. It's a surprisingly limited form of save scumming in that each area of the game has a certain amount of choices, both story-central and ancillary, that ...

"Life Is Strange Episode 2 is near perfect and leaves me with a strong feeling of choice and consequence" 1

Life Is Strange Episode 2: Out of Time REVIEWWritten By: Tyler PedersonI have seen a number of attempts at making the Episodic approach truly meaningful. While there have been a choice here and there in other series that eventually come to mean something, Life Is Strange is quickly putting any other attempts at that style of storytelling to shame. Not only do I feel like every choice I made in episode 1 was a meaningful one with direct and indirect results to show for it, I can safely say they l...

Life is indeed strange, and awesome and so is this game. 0

A lighthouse serves to guide ships to shores in the dark of night. In Life is Strange it doesn't only guide ships. Its 5 minutes after 2 am, and my heart is still above normal speeds. Right now the credits to the fifth and final episode of Life is Strange are playing in the background while I try to come to terms with the experience I just had. One thing I am sure of is that this amazing game is one of my favorite games of this year. Where other games try to capture grand moments, that are supp...

    Truly awesome game 0

For people who hate reading, here's a summary :Pros : scenario/sounds/originalityCons (and not even that much) : average graphicsI played so many games you have no idea, i am a gamer since my early ages, and this game right here, is truly awesome. It's a heavy rain/beyond two souls/the walking dead like video game, a 3rd person game with so many ways of ending, a game where you make your own decisions, and every single one of them has a direct impact on the story. It is really worth the 5 stars, e...

Life Is Strange: Episode 1: Chrysalis 2

Life Is Strange: Episode 1- Chrysalis REVIEW(PS4, XBO, PS3, X360, PC)Written By Tyler Pederson When sitting down to play Life Is Strange, I had little idea what I was getting into. Seemingly a cross between Telltales style of adventure game and a more serious narrative, I was intrigued to say the least. The game opens boldly, setting itself apart and continuing to do so. Not many games today have the courage to let you slowly grow into your role, and insist on a crash course from the moment you ...

    Episode 1: Chrysalis review 0

What do you get when you cross the precedents set forth by developers Quantic Dream and Telltale? Well, that would be Life Is Strange, a coincidentally memorable episodic adventure game from developer DONTNOD Entertainment; the people behind the ironically forgettable Remember Me. While their 2013 product was not an absolute failure, it was unable to capitalize on the promise of its concept. Fortunately, Life Is Strange isn't plagued with those same issues from Remember Me, as it ditches its act...

Life Is FU****G Strange – So Is Bernard and his Watch! 0

It defo is.What would you do if you could mess with time? I personally would go back to the Egyptian era and have copious amount of you know what with Cleopatra. But I digress…Just reading that this game was about Time Travel made me super excited. I immediately purchased all five seasons (the pass) and felt quality about it. I literally had no idea what I had just bought…… Do I regret it?? Do I heck! The game is brilliant. It’s like a reimagined Monkey Island where yo...

    This game is terrible 0

It's a complete mystery to me why people think this game is good. It's dialog is terrible & it's main characters of Max & Chloe are downright dislikable. It's too bad there wasn't an ending where you could kill both of them off & make Arcadia Bay a much better place. Life is Strange 2 is coming out soon I have hopes it will be what I had hoped the 1st one would be. Heck at this rate I would settle for it not being a complete piece of garbage. ...

Powers To Control The World! 0

Life Is Strange is another title that focuses heavily on your decisions and actions within the game. The story revolves around a teenage girl still at school and is an aspiring photographer. Whilst having what was a normal day studying she somehow manages to obtain the ability to control time, now this may sound like a good thing but it can also be somewhat of a terrible one too depending on how you wish to play the game. The entire cast of characters are very interesting each with their own un...

    The Power of Narrative 0

When I started playing I never stopped ... Life is Strange was a game that hooked me in the first episodes , it's easy to get carried away by the surrounding plot, not to mention that the first episode song ever slingshot anyone . With a great story line , captivating and memorable characters and a gorgeous soundtrack, Life is Strange is a surprise that I did not expect , and even with some problems ( my bummer ) is a game that really worth much worth...

Life is Strange, accepting loss 0

This review is 100% spoiler filled. You have been warned! My aim here is to talk more about the overall theme and message I interpreted from the game which is true for either ending you decide on. Through this providing the artistic merit this game has to offer if once is willing to think. This game is more than a surface level route experience. The very mechanics are premise of the game can be taken as commentary on games and on the thematic nature of the game itself. Without further delay, this...

What started as a charming adventure quickly became one of the best surprises of the year. 0

When I first heard of Life is Strange, I was reminded of what made me want to try out DONTNOD’s first game, Remember Me. The premise of that game was more than enough to get me interested, but it became slightly disappointing once I started playing. With this game, I was immediately drawn to the premise as well but didn’t really expect a whole lot from it. I actually forgot about it entirely until a few days after episode 1 came out. From the moment I started my 9-month long journey...

Life of an American millenial 0

When I first read about "Life is Strange", I quickly dismissed it as another developer trying to hit on the same notes a title like "Gone Home" did, but in a more drawn out fashion. I guess I wasn't so far off in my reaction, but at the same time that is so beside the point that it doesn't matter. Plenty of mediums tackle time-travel, but none that I've seen do it in the style of "Life is Strange". It all kind of feels like a fever dream, which I guess makes sense when you think about your teena...

An endearing game that offers good value with an engrossing tale. 0

I got this as a steam gift from a friend. I did not know much about this game but I liked what I saw in the Quick Look of it and I requested that that game should be my gift. I wanted an episodic adventure that wasn't another Telltale series on a franchise I don't care about. As a senior in high school, I felt it would be fun to check out a game that is probably most relevant to me out of 2015. To me, this has been by far the best pure adventure game I have played this year. If you want twists,...

    Great original story 0

How strange that I thought the story was great, yet I hated pretty much every character in it; I'm just so disconnected from the teen life and it's shocking how hard that hit me playing this.If you've played a recent Telltale game, you know what to expect mechanically from this game. The choices seems a lot more impactful in this game though, some of the choices I made had major impact on the ongoing game going forward, it really felt crazy some of the things that happened and how much they impa...

    2015's Best Surprise Game 0

It has been one... strange journey for this game. When Dontnod Entertainment released Life is Strange Episode 1 back in January, it was hard to believe come October there would be more buzz surrounding the game's final episode then the bigger budget, big marque Tales from the Borderlands which concluded the same week. Dontnod had a single prior game under its belt, the incredibly forgettable Remember Me. And thus the first episode of their sophomore work, Life is Strange, a small budget adventure...
