Which game have you played that has had the longest/worse loading.
I'm going to say Oblivion. Out of the 200 hours I put into that game I would say around half of the time was waiting for something to load :(
Loading Screen
Concept »
Loading Screens are specific screens that are displayed while a game is loading resources so that the player has something to distract them while the game loads. Loading Screens can be images, text or even mini-games - and sometimes a combination of all three.
Worse loading
I dont mind loading times. Although i do hate certain aspects of loading. Like in Bionic Commando Rearmed - When you die in the training areas it takes 3 seconds to respawn. It would be really nice if you appeared again instantly.
MGS4's were pretty bad. Like having to wait 8 minutes would have been much better were it not 8 minutes of a 20 second looped animation of Snake having a smoke.
Too many games have I played that have HORRIBLE load times. Probably one of my most hated things in gaming.
This one isn't the worst, but it's the first game to come to my mind. Stuntman! The game had some fairly long load times, and what made it worse is that the game really wants you to do runs as perfectly as possible, so a tiny mistake could have you restarting the take. It's a game where sometimes you'll be trying a take 20-30 times, which would have been fine except for the fact that you have to wait like 30 seconds for each restart. It was kind of frustrating, but also it gave you ample time to let out all of your frustration from failing your last attempt which allowed you to regroup and prepare for your next try, so I guess it kind of worked out well, if you have some patience anyway.
Oblivion had the worst loading screens. But socom confrontation beta takes the cake when it comes to the longest. I could of gone out and grabbed a bite to eat and still come back to a loading screen.
"Mass Effect. I'm never going in a lift again."Oh my god, that game made me hate elevators in general.
"Oblivion had the worst loading screens. But socom confrontation beta takes the cake when it comes to the longest. I could of gone out and grabbed a bite to eat and still come back to a loading screen."Oblivion had fine loading screens for me.
I had a messed up disc of God of War 2, and the game froze for like 20 minutes.
Strangely, playing it on my PS3 fixed the issue completely.
"HazBazz said:Agreed, gosh I used to plan out ways to get around using elevators. The thought of them makes me cringe."Mass Effect. I'm never going in a lift again."Oh my god, that game made me hate elevators in general."
But I'd say WWE: SVR 2006-07 for the PSP. My friend has it, I've seen how bad it is..Very bad
Mercenaries (the original for PS2 took a while to get started).
Current generation that I've seen would go to Orange Box, specifically the Half-Life 2 games. Man, there's a lot of loading and sometimes it took a bit for the game to continue.
Recently Bleach Shattered Blade for the wii.
Of all time? for me it's Ninja: Shadow of Darkness on the PSone
Obviously, you people have NO IDEA what you are talking about, because there is only one guaranteed answer to this question:
"That Simpsons road rage game on the ps2, NOW that had stupid loading times, loadings so slow you could go to the toilet and be back in time."
Come to think about it they were quite long loading times. The cities you were taxi driving the characters around in were quite big though, and all the charactars and stuff. The game was awesome.
"Obviously, you people have NO IDEA what you are talking about, because there is only one guaranteed answer to this question:Really?Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain on PS1.Waiting five minutes for your fucking PAUSE SCREEN to load up? Beats ALL of your answers."
Jeff says nothing about that in his rather short review over on gamespot.
"Zebadee said:what fucking game were you playing it was pure unfiltered crap."That Simpsons road rage game on the ps2, NOW that had stupid loading times, loadings so slow you could go to the toilet and be back in time."

I haven't had problems with loading times o be honest, the longest I have waited I think it was for GTA IV.
"TheDavidSwain said:It freaking awesome, was fucking awesome at that game. Much better then that Hit'n'run shit."Zebadee said:what fucking game were you playing it was pure unfiltered crap.""That Simpsons road rage game on the ps2, NOW that had stupid loading times, loadings so slow you could go to the toilet and be back in time."

From Wikipedia (and I by no mean agree with what IGN said...it made my game experience miserable many times, although the story and game itself are absolutely amazing):
A lot of things on the psp have really long load times. Smackdown Vs Raw had like 2 minute loading times.
"Mass Effect. I'm never going in a lift again."Mass Effect for me as well, but not the elevator rides (Suprisingly, I felt that was a creative and believable way to mask the loading). I'm talking about the frequent pauses when the loading icon
pops up, which I found to be more distracting than the texture pop-in. The screen doesn't even fade out, so when one isn't prepared for it, it gives the impression that the 360 froze. One can only hope that the Play From Drive feature launching with the NXE this fall will thoroughly address this.
The only problem I had with the loading in MGS4 was that you had to hit start every time to actually continue. But the longest loading screens I've come across is Flight Simulator X, which can be severely compounded if you have less than fairly high-end hardware.
Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 and PS3 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkhh7n017o
If nobody said Sonic the Hedgehog for 360, then you are all completely oblivious of the worst loading. For instance:
- Load town HUB.
- Load when talking to a resident inside the HUB.
- Load when accepting a side-mission.
- Load when completed with the side-mission.
- Load to retry.
- Load the HUB back up.
MASS EFFECT ELEVATOR RIDES, is the most frustrating in recent history. Oblivion was pretty bad before it took the time to cache to the harddrive.
Otherwise, i havent really had an issue with loading times since the ps1 probably. Maybe the loading times between islands in Vice city? That was annoying.
Nothing compares to the loading times i was subjected to on the C64 tho. Ussually i cant understand the big deal people have with loading times.
Mass Effect. What the point of taking a lift if it is going to take ages? At least some games that have loadings mixed with gameplay disguise it better, like in Dead Space, when you try to hack a door, even the installation of the chapters in MGS IV is better, as you get many inside jokes in the messages.
The most annoying loading I've come across is in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords.
