With no digging mechanic and a multileveled "3D" style, Lode Runner's Rescue probably has more in common with Atari's Crystal Castles (Game) than with other games in the Lode Runner franchise. In Lode Runner's rescue, the protagonist of the original game has been captured by the Bungeling Empire. The player steps into the shoes of the Lode Runner's daughter in an attempt to rescue her father. Like other games in the Lode Runner franchise, Rescue ships with a level editor.
