This game, in my opinion, wasted several good opportunities for twists and turns in the story I believe.
Kaim was "immortal" right? So, you could've had the first fight in the beginning happening a century before the game with a fully powered Kaim (abilitease) and then your mind erased and then send you to do another minor task and the meteor drops and whatever.
They could also later, when joining Kaim's grandchildren, the time could fly by for unknown reasons and Mack and Cooke could be older and powerful along with Jansen, being an old pervert but amazing geezer as Master Roshi and etcetera.
And so you could pull several time changes in the game making perhaps more interesting? With these immortals and stuff.
You could also see the transformation of society as the time passed by.
Meh, two cents.
