The Lost World is the cornerstone of
Crocodile Isle in
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, and is suspected to be the area of origin of the
Kremlings. Players gain access to the area by paying
Klubba, a guard assigned to protect the warps to the different areas of the region, 15 Kremkoins at the various Klubba Kiosks throughout the game. There are five total kiosks, meaning the player must find all 75 Kremkoins in order to gain access to all five levels:
Jungle Jinx,
Black Ice Battle,
Klobber Karnage,
Fiery Furnace, and
Animal Antics. The levels are based on extreme climates that reflect the various worlds from the game: Jungle Jinx, for instance, takes place entirely within a jungle while Fiery Furnace is located inside of a volcano. The final level of the Lost World, Animal Antics, is the longest level in the game, and combines several of the game's major areas.
There is one Bonus Barrel in each level of the Lost World, and rather than receive a Kremkoin for completing the bonus, the
player is instead awarded with a DK Hero Coin. After all five levels have been completed, the main crocodile head in the middle of the map opens to reveal Krocodile Kore, where the game's true final boss fight and final DK Hero Coin are located. After this final fight, Krocodile Kore is destroyed, and Crocodile Isle collapses into the sea.
In
Donkey Kong Land 2, the Lost World raises itself back up from the bottom of the sea, thus recreating Crocodile Isle. A single Klubba Kiosk requires the player to pay all 47 Kremkoins at once to access the area, and once again the game ends with the "true final boss fight" in Krocodile Kore after the Lost World levels have been completed.
