The weapon takes standard cryo-round technology and utilizes a cooling laser to collapse the ammunition into a mass of super-cooled sub-atomic particles. These sub-atomic particles can snap-freeze impacted targets and is also effective against armor, shields and biotic barriers. The weapon can be used to strip off shields, armor, etc. and once unprotected, enemies can be snap-frozen for at least 15-20 seconds where damage is also doubled. A single hit from the weapon doesn't do a lot of damage, but the high ammo capacity can make up for that. Also, in order for the target to be frozen, the target must remain in the freezing cloud which makes the M-622 Avalanche mostly a defensive weapon. However, the freezing cloud has an area-of-effect and can trap several enemies at once. AcquisitionThe weapon can be researched at the Normandy Research Station after acquiring two heavy weapon ammo upgrades. The weapon costs 15,000 iridium.
