    Overview

Mad Alien (known in Japan as Mad Rider) is a vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed and released by Data East for arcades in 1980. It was then ported to their DECO Cassette System as HWY Chase.

Similar in gameplay to Galaxian, players guide a car through an unusually-large roadway (that expands and contracts over time), shooting an assortment of aliens (which was changed to other cars in the Mad Rider and HWY Chase versions).

It is known as the first game released for the DECO Cassette System hardware and is the base for their sci-fi shoot-'em-up Nebula.
