    MadWorld

Before I say anything: YES, this is the most violent game on the Wii, and NO, it is not the best by any stretch of the imagination. Imagine my surprise when an extremely hyped, cool looking game gets passed by the Australian censorship board without a single cut. And we're talking about some really extreme violence. Whatver the reason for its secure passage through the Ratings Board, now we can all enjoy and pick the faults of of Madworld, a shallow vapid actioner that entertains due to sparkling dialogue and heavily exaggerated violence.

In traditional beat-em-ups, one can punch, kick, maybe through in a headbutt and even fire a gun. This is not the killer's modus operandi in Madworld's dystopian, heavily fucked up social Death competition. A basic TUTORIAL kill revolved around smashing a tire over the enemy's head, puncturing their neck with a signpost before impaling their bleeding, weepy body on a wall of spikes known here as a Rose Bush.

This is all well and good, but Madworld lasts only 5 hours and has some very annoying factors in it. The controls are fine, but the camera is AWFUL. I couldn't see where I was going without constant shifts of the Wii remote and the camera controls. If you die, the game sends you back to the start of the level, even if you're up to the final boss. It can take up to Ten minutes to get back up to that stage again, which in today's age of checkpoints and mid level autosaves seems excessive and cruel.

Still, I can't  hate this game too much. It's no masterpiece, but it is very fun to play for 5 minutes in front of small children leaving them begging for more, before cruelly turning it off because they're 'too young'. A bit sadistic, I know, but you have to be to appreciate and laugh at this game. It's good fun, but not perfect.

MadWorld: It Tries, But Not Enough for An A for Effort 0

Perhaps I came into MadWorld with the wrong expectations. Although it's the first game to be released by PlatinumGames, I had hope that it would be enjoyable given the developer's pedigree. After all, many of the prominent members worked for Capcom's Clover Studio, who happened to produce several games during the last generation I still remain fond of to this day. I thought that with that experience behind it, MadWorld couldn't go especially wrong, even if it was experimental to some extent. To ...

See you in Hell, Jack! 0

MadWorld is a game that I've been following for quite a while, and my general anticipation for it has been fluctuating all along. A first glance suggested that it would offer tons of style and personality, yet it remained to be seen how the gameplay would back up that initial impression. The result simultaneously hit all my hopes and fears, as MadWorld has a great presentation, but lacks the substance to have any lasting appeal. The main thing that MadWorld lacks is pure content. This is a crimin...
