I just played through the xbox 360 demo version and i like it a lot. my only beef with the demo is the excruciatingly short play time it gives you and the fact that it has TONS of screen tearing. i did notice it has a slighly lower frame rate that im used to but its not slow beyond the large amount of screen tearing. has anybody else noticed the tearing or had an issue with the time limit only being 10 minutes?

Mafia 2 demo issues.
i had the most screen tearing around the house at the start of the demo. once you leave it seems to get a little bit better. but idk.
@FireBurger:
i didnt have a huge issue with framerate it ran smoothly for me. what version were you playing on? i have heard that the ps3 version is missing some minor graphics touches and the frame rate takes a noticeable hit for the ps3 version.
its pretty sad that you would make a judgement on a full release product with just experience with an incomplete likely unfinished engine version for a demo and simply write it off as a cheap gta clone. as if gta4 was any good at all....
PC version seemed pretty fine. No FPS problems or Screen Tearing(Can that happen on PC?). The cut scenes look really nice though.
the xbox versions cut-scenes looked great and ran fine for me. i think the issues with the demo may be that its using an incomplete or slightly unstable version of the games engine. it is possible that they removed a large portion of the engine for the demo for file size or something and its not quite running up to par.
" I'm on 360. It couldn't have gone above 30fps at any point. It was playable, but very noticeable. "compared to K&L2 silky smooth 60 (granted it's technically 2 different games), ya the low framerate is very obvious.
will curios to see which one would sell more since its the only big 2 release for August.
I rammed myself full-speed into the front of a delivery truck of some sort. I was stuck with my nose jammed under the grill of the truck for about three minutes. I wouldn't usually call that a glitch, but I couldn't get out of my car or steer myself out of it. I just had to wait for the truck driver AI to figure out how to turn his steering wheel. Not a big deal, but I hope this isn't a very common occurrence. It would suck if this happened when I was on some time-crucial mission.
I too find the tearing and framerate to be... well, not great.
Kinda digging the realism of the game though, even if it makes it frustrating at times.
i played the demo for kane and lynch 2 last night also. i liked the singleplayer demo but i tried for over an hour to play the multiplayer and i couldnt get into a single match.
@JJWeatherman:
i did really enjoy the amount of detail they are putting into the game and the extent they are going to make the game fit into the time period its set in. i find it awesome. i really love their perticular attention to accuracy with the cars and firearms of the period. the fake thunderbird you can get out of the garage in the demo is almost spot on.
" @niamahai: i played the demo for kane and lynch 2 last night also. i liked the singleplayer demo but i tried for over an hour to play the multiplayer and i couldnt get into a single match. "Funny that you say that...you can find a match instantly on the PC version.
The time limit is ridiculous, I don't even know why they bothered imposing it. The portion of the city is tiny.
On Ps3 the frame rate was less than stellar. but generally no worse than GTA4.
The game's pretty gimped on Ps3, it's missing more then a few "Graphical touches". it only rubs it in when they show the trailer at the end that's clearly running on a PC looking alot nicer and at a much higher resolution.
But man, the collectibles are the best (And simultaneously most exploitative) I've ever seen.
ive been looking around for info on that demo. apparently from what ive read there is a matchmaking issue with the 360 version and causes the game to have a very difficult time do so. it usually ends with the game putting you into an empty lobby by yourself and it wont send people in to join you. from what ive read the ps3 and pc versions run the multiplayer portion of the demo just fine.
@Akrid:
from what i can tell the ps3 version is only missing the grass sprites in lawns and some lighting/shadow effects that just add to detail. but i dont know. if youve played the ps3 version you already know more about it directly than i do. i couldnt tell any difference in quality between the cutscenes/trailers and the general gameplay. they matched up close enough for me to not notice a difference. as far as the games hidden collectibles i thought they were awesome. its the first time ive ever seen anything remotely like them in a video game and im excited to see what kind of overreaction the game is going to get from overly controlling freakout parents that just want to sue people and try to get rediculous laws created to cover up the fact that they are terrible parents and somehow think that their children arent already watching porn elsewhere. besides the game is M and is not meant for children anyways.
I tried out the demo on both the PC and PS3. The PS3 version was playable, but wasn`t good.
The PC version ran with no problems. It was smooth. The game was running at default setting for my machine (medium) and at 1680 x 1050. I had a friend run it at high and he had the same results. Smooth and no problems at all.
Yeah, those collectibles are awesome.
Played the demo on 360 and PS3. My takeaways:
-360 is better overall, smoother framerate, less jaggies
-PS3 version lacks some detail on grass (and trees/bushes?).
-PS3 version slowed down a BIT more, but I noticed some tearing on the PS3 version (which I didn't notice in the 360 version).
-PS3 version features the same controls as the 360 (L2 to aim and R2 to fire). IMO this is awkward with the PS3's convex triggers (should be L1 and L2).
Hopefully once review copies are out we can see if this is still true for the retail version!
My real problem is gaming on a big tv shows how low a resolution the game is, so the antialiasing is key. This game... Doesn't seem to have any. For that reason I'm pondering getting the PC version although I don't have a very powerful computer personally.
As for the collectibles I think they're awesome, and I could care less about parental outcry as long as it doesn't have any effect, which is often the case. My issue is why do we need to alienate the female gaming population further? I could see a lot of women crucifying the game for that one teensy thing. It's similar to what happened to Bayonetta, most women found it offensive at first glance despite the fact that if fit perfectly with the context.
" @FireBurger said:Kane and Lynch 2 ran at 60fps? On the 360? Huh.." I'm on 360. It couldn't have gone above 30fps at any point. It was playable, but very noticeable. "compared to K&L2 silky smooth 60 (granted it's technically 2 different games), ya the low framerate is very obvious. will curios to see which one would sell more since its the only big 2 release for August. i played it on my roomates giant monitor in our living room. hes got a humongous screen. i dont know the size off the top of my head. id have to ask him but since i work thirds im usually awake at night on my off days and hes asleep. but the screen itself is about 4 feet wide and three feet tall. i didnt notice any resolution distortion or jaggies at all on the 360 version i played. just the screen tearing. and as far as alienating a female demographic i think thats a long stretch. the images are simply playboy centerfold style images that have clearly been photoshopped to the moon and back. besides most women i know wouldnt really take offense. although they are technically porno they are still tactful images that are respectful for what they are and the women portrayed were likely willing participants (if not paid). i believe that the only women that would take offense to this are overly hysterical hardcore feminists that act like no one has seen a set of breasts before. and that they are somehow exploitations of women. its funny how they never make comments pertaining to men in pornography. if women can be exploited in pornography men can easily be so. they are distant from any kind of ridiculous porn or sexual imagery you would get today. just imagine two girls one cup, or one guy one jar being released in media back in the day. the public outcry back then would be horrendous.
as far as bayonetta goes. its pretty obvious there was an effort with development of that game to make it as tactless and sexually oriented as possible. the whole point of that game was to play as an overly sexual stereo typical female sex bot kinda thing that honestly made me feel awkward about the game. although i never played it. the gameplay style turned me off. im not a big fan of the devil may cry hack and slash kinda thing bayonetta has going on. i did own dmc1 for my ps2 back in the day and loved it i just cant stay entertained by that gameplay style thats now being thrown out all over with bayonetta and god of war stuff coming out every year or two.
I played the steam demo and I loved it. I like the camera angle. The visuals are very colorful and love the ambient music and radio in the background. Finding classic porn is great, classy playboy is where its it. Cover system felt good. Ran fast and very very smooth. Shooting felt good, and it the demo had a great cliffhanger. I really enjoy the characters that you work with, classic mobster characterization with a bit of mystery.
all ive got is an 8600gt (i think. id have to look at it again to be sure) a single core 2.2 amd and 2 gigs ram. :(
oh and its a compaq. but they get points for reliability and stability in my book. the only problems ive had with it are from updating my comodo firewall/antivirus software to a newer version (roughly six months newer) and my OS got fried from installing the antivirus portion of the suite. long story short. after five years i am no longer a Comodo antivirus/firewall user. sadly the version they had out a couple years ago was one of the best on the market. after that it was all down hill. now my tower has no antivirus protection and im to broke to up for a nod32 license. but i did transition my rig to my roomates hardware firewall/server/routerswitch settup and freed up like half of my memory. now if i can only resist downloading all that porn onto my tower while its not antivirus protected.... thank god i have a lenovo lappy that i cant use the battery in or the power supply shorts the hard drive out in as a backup!!
I'm not talking about hardcore feminists that actively hate Playboy for objectifying women. An average woman would hear that there are playboy collectibles in the game and think "This game is not for me". Granted you play a male character in a specifically male "profession" so to draw in the female demographic is not a great priority, but I still more or less see that as PR suicide.
As for Bayonetta, the style was as over-the-top as possible, so the oversexualization fits quite well. I wouldn't argue against her being two-dimensional in her own way, but by game standards she was not stereotypical. She was at the very least a strong independent female lead which is very rare in games.
Love the cars, the sound track and the setting, but man after playing Red dead I am not feeling the open world thing.
" @PNut_Buttr_Panda: I'm on a recent 360 Arcade, so the hardware shouldn't be an issue. I'm probably just pickier. :) It just seems like the framerate is something you'd find in something like Two Worlds, rather than in a high-production game like Mafia. "my thoughts exactly. it makes me wonder that its just a demo issue from the engine being cut down for the demo as opposed to an overall stability problem with the whole game. i guess we will have to see when its released later this month.
I played the demo three times on the 360, and I never noticed any screen tearing. The short demo time was disappointing though.
This game has the worst frame rate I've played / seen in years. For any game that involves the precision and timing of driving or aiming (let alone both), this is an immediate problem.
i would love for a crime game in the 50's that doesn't have the mafia as the main players
italia sucks

Except I could get out, and I proceeded to kill the truck driver for doing that to my beautiful car. . .

Yes it can happen on the PC but that's why there's that option in the graphics setting to stop it if it happens, I can't remember what it's called at the moment. Starts with a V...

That would be awesome.
