The map dosen't look bigger that the original Mafia map but it's probably more "rich".

Yeah it's now where near as big as GTA 4. But the detail is Rocksteady Standard. 
Also remember that the world will change through the ages. So they've practically re-made their world twice or more. 
I'm looking forward to it because my PC can run it full-ish. No Apex Physx though :( that just destroys my sloppy 2.8GHz AMD Dual-core.

Looking at that map and seeing the area the Demo takes place in, I am thinking the world isn't huge.  You know what they say though, it's not the size, it's what you do with it.  Watching trailers and stuff, this game reminds me of Fable II.  You will come back to places you have been before and they will be changed.  Also, I like the idea of having part of the game take place in the winter.  I never liked that in GTA it never snowed.

Its hard judge that map without playing. Scale and quality can't really be assessed from that map.

It's not huge or anything, but I think it's big enough. Demo was only like 10% the size of the full map and it still felt like a decent size.

10 sq miles is plenty big, I dont thing their will be helipcopters or usable taxis like GTAIV so it may seem bigger than it looks.
