Magnus Gallant is the main protagonist of Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. His story begins when he graduates from the military acadamy. On his first training exercise he encounters members of the Revolutionary Army, where he learns of the injustice of the class system and starts to second guess his intentions. Eventually, Magnus decides to do what he thinks is right and joins the Revolutionary Army. By switching sides, Magnus gains many more enemies. Including the entire empire of Lodis, Palatinus, his own father, his best friend, and eventually, the denizens of the netherworld. Depending on the choices the player makes throughout the campaign, three different endings can come to Magnus. In one, he is branded as a war-hungry general and is hated by almost everybody, and the empire descends into chaos after the new king is assassinated. In the second, Magnus is named the general of Palatinus, and becomes the protector of the empire. And in the last ending, Magnus becomes the new king after the new one is assassinated, and has a son named Aeneas.
Magnus begins the game as the Gladiator class, a basic class with all physical attacks no matter where he is placed in the unit grid. Eventually, he upgrades to the class of Vanguard after a certain point in the game. His new class grants him a magical attack from the back row. HIs last class upgrade, General, gives him an even more powerful magical attack from the back and gives him a new picture in the character picture screen. Magnus, like many of the classes in Ogre Battle 64, uses a sword. He is one of the most powerful non-mage class characters in the game.
