    Overview

Mahou Kishi Rayearth, or Magic Knight Rayearth, is a turn-based RPG that is based on the manga/anime of the same name, featuring three schoolgirls who are transported from modern day Tokyo to the magical world of Cephiro. The game loosely follows the plot of the manga and anime, wherein the heroines determine how Cephiro works and their role in rescuing the world's leader Princess Emeraude, who presently takes the vital role of Pillar, from the villainous Zagato.

Magic Knight Rayearth saw multiple games released in the mid-90s during the height of the anime adaptation's popularity and each is entirely distinct. Unlike the well-known and completely separate Sega Saturn version, the Super Famicom version of Magic Knight Rayearth was never officially localized into English despite the anime's mild popularity overseas. It did however see a fan localization from LNF Translations in 1999, a mere four years after the game's original release.
