Mario, Nintendo's mascot, has been around for over 30 years and still stars in many games, saving Princess Peach from Bowser's numerous plots. Mario is the best selling video game franchise of all time, with an estimated 200 million Mario games sold world-wide.
I've been a gamer my entire life, and I JUST now realized that "Warp Pipes" in Mario games are actually sewage tunnels...because they're plumbers, get it?
Is this a commonly overlooked fact, or am I just super slow?

I think a lost of people overlook it. For a couple of years after I first player Mario, I thought they were plant pots because they had piranha plants in.
Don't feel stupid, I realized last year that SMB 3 art style is meant to ressemble a play (theatre), yeah, the initial curtain lifting wasn't enough for me and I have played SMB 3 since I was 5 (I'm 22 now).

Technically, the story of the original Mario Bros. is of him having to clean the sewers of all the Koopas and what not. Though the ratio of jumping on heads to plumbing is pretty uneven.
