Surprise! Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 will also hit PSN on Jan. 18, the same day the boxed version hits store shelves. According to this recent reveal post on the PS blog, this digital version apparently won’t be lacking features that the physical version is shipping with, meaning you’ll get access to all the free DLC hitting with the game and, presumably, the Cerberus Network stuff as well.

Also, when you buy the digital version, you’ll get the oft-talked-about digital comic, which acts as a bridge between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. I didn’t catch this until today, but apparently this comic is also interactive, allowing you to make those important moral choices from the original ME that informs certain… situations and outcomes in the second game.

No word on the price on the digital version just yet, but I’ll note that the physical version of the port will ship at the normal $60 price tag. PS3 users, if you're down to play Giant Bomb's Game of the Year 2010, will you be seeking out a disc copy or just downloading it straight from PSN?

The comic as a bridge concept is very cool.  It'd be great to see this as a trend in future sequel releases.  It's a good way to catch those up who may have missed (or have limited time to play) the prequel to a game.

Have the physical copy pre-ordered, picking it up as soon as it drops. I'm not a fan of big downloads on PSN, takes too long and pauses when you play an online game (as it should, I guess).

I'm sure it will. It could be that you'll just get a voucher to download it. I don't see why they would make DD only as that comic is pretty darn important for people who are new to the series.

Comic is in the disc version as well. Nicholson was saying "you'll get all the DLC that's in the disc version. You'll also get the comic that's in the disc version." The paragraph break makes it seem sort of weird.

I wonder if the most important moral choice will be in the comic. I of course talk about Conrad Verner ^^ I loved the fact that he was in ME2 if you treated him a certain way.

Well, I think someone need to work on their writing skills, because, from that I understand that the digital version has features the disc one doesn't.

It makes it clear the PSN version won't be lacking features, and they it says... "also....", so... on top of the DLC and stuff.. you get the comic. If the comic is included in both, shouldn't be mentioned in the previous paragraph?

I imagine the download would take forever.  The 360 version was like 20gb for both discs.  It has to be pretty close to that.

Brad, they said the comic was going to be available to all versions, disc and download alike.

My bet is that the game will be the exact same price as the disc version, as they are likely to handle it the same way as they handle PSPGo games.

I would buy it from PSN, just to cut off the middle man (and importing it will take me more than what it takes to download it), but 12 Gb is a huge part of my 60 Gb model.

Very cool, but I haven't planned on buying the full disc, I was just going to GameFly it, if anything,

But like I said, that is super cool, I hope EA continues the trend of day-1 downloads for full games.

Yes, I agree it's confusing, but I don't think a single mistake means "someone need (sic) to work on their writing skills." Maybe a quick edit would fix this issue, and not another semester in English 101?

If they do the typical download version is $10 cheaper then I'll consider it, but I would have to clear a bunch of space off my 80 Gig to do it. Either way I won't be getting it at day one so if gamefly doesn't get it to me by the time there is a significant price drop I'll wait for the disc copy.

I donno either. Looks like her arms are overlapping incorrectly or something. Also, why does she have a top on here, but not in the panel to the left? I also think I remember noticing some shockingly weird drawing fuckups in the other clips of this comic that I've seen. Maybe it's 'cause they're stills of inFAMOUS-styled "moving comics."

Started playing the original again a couple of days ago in preparation, won't get this quite yet though as I don't want it quite enough to get it at full price. Wish I could take my PC save from ME1 across to PS3 ME2 though. (Yes I know I could get it on PC but I really don't want to, I only did that for the first one once it was absolutely clear that it wasn't coming to PS3.)

I bought Mass Effect 2 during the Steam Sales for  $10.  After 2 hours in on my mass effect 2 playthrough i realized I had no chance for Wrex to be around....  Currently replaying Mass Effect(first time was 360 version)  and just about to start Vermire and finish up the game so I can import and play through all of Mass Effect 2 before Dragon Age 2 comes out....  So then I can finish up my Dragon Age 1 playthough to get whatever that unlocks and get started on DA2. and then TOR comes out.......     This is a vicious cycle...

I could play this on my roommate's XBox for free... or I could just buy it on PS3. And then my save stuff will carry over to ME3 when it comes out later this year.

Damn, with Batman, Mass Effect, inFMAOUS and Uncharted this is going to be one hell of a year.

I might be buying it on PSN if I can gameshare then pick up the disc-based one when it gets super cheap. There's no way this should be a $60 MSRP release when I have already seen the 360 version of ME2 sell for around $10.

I really want to support digital distribution, but I don't have a credit card, so buying 3 $20 PSN cards for Mass Effect 2 would be a serious pain in the ass. Also, $60 seems fine. All the DLC and an exclusive comic? and a new engine? Totally fine. No way I'll be getting it anytime soon though since I already spent what little Christmas money I have. Time to start saving!!
