I just finished Mass Effect on the PC and after nearly 30 hours, I am wondering if I should begin Mass Effect 2 right now or give myself a bit of time to space them out. What do?

Also if you opt for the "give yourself time" option, about how much time?

I imagine that the experience would be better if you started ME2 as soon as you can. No reason to wait.

The experience is pretty different. I don't think you'll burn yourself out since the gameplay is different enough.

@Akeldama: I'm waiting to do my final replay of ME2 once all the DLC is finished. That way it'll give me a lot more stuff to do on that playthrough - Kasumi, Overlord, Shadow Broker, Firewalker missions, and the new DLC. Because if you play all the DLC now, when the last one arrives it could feel lackluster going back into the game just for one DLC which we don't even know how good it'll be. Just an option

I'd say wait a while (1/2 weeks), after 30 hours of Mass Effect  1 you might pay less attention to the fiction if you start part 2 straight away , and also  lower your expactation bar a bit.  I didnt and was really dissapointed by some aspects...

I just finished ME2 this sunday , after doing the same. All in all about 80 hours of awesomeness!
You should definitely go ahead and play on. The first twenty minutes/half hour might be a bit weird given the slightly different controlscheme, but that would happen anyway.
But oh man, does it feel great to have everything still in memory when stuff gets referenced.

Go doo it, go doo it, go dooit, dooit dooit!

Go play it right away and when you're done, play it again with a different character and different choices, maybe on a different difficulty as well and get some achievements when you're at it to get bonuses ( not sure but most likely ) in ME3.

I just beat all the dlc on insane and after that much Mass Effect 2, I can remember why I didn't want to go back in the first place. You'll enjoy it, its just really, really overrated.
