I'm probably gunna get flamed hardcore for this, but I really want Tali to be in the third installment. Have another romance plot, but this time reveal her face! :(
Mass Effect 2
Game » consists of 21 releases. Released Jan 26, 2010
After a violent death by an unknown force and a timely reanimation by the human supremacist organization Cerberus, Commander Shepard must assemble a new squad in the seedier side of the galaxy for a suicide mission in the second installment of the "Mass Effect" trilogy.
Which character would you like to see return in Mass Effect 3?
All the Mass Effect 2 squad members are going to be just character in the background since they all can possibly die in the suicide mission. All the romances in the second game aren't going to continue into Mass Effect 3, they were just distractions. The only romances that matter are the ones you had in the first game. If you cheated on your romance from the first game, it's going to come back and bite you on the ass in the third game.
They will probably all return as side characters, but I would really like to see Mordin, Tali, Garrus, Legion and Thane to be in my squad again. I didn't much care for Jacob, Grunt and Miranda. Also, I really really want Liara back again, it was awfull to see her like the crazy avenger type. Also: "Shepard".

"Any love interests from the first game won't be joining your squad for Mass Effect 3. It would be nice to see your squad members returning again for Mass Effect 3 but it won't happen, since it's possible for all your squad members to die. It would cost way to much development time and resources to put them back into your squad member roster.
It's going to be difficult because of certain events in the story that makes it impossible for Bioware to have a consistent cast.
But if you ask me about a specific spieces that hasn't appeared yet, I would most certainly love a Volus guy who buys and sells stuff from/for you like the requisitions dude in ME1.
" @JustTheDoctor: I'm just wondering, but where did you get all this info? Considering ME3 won't be released for a few years.. "I don't have a link if that's what your asking. It was from a interview with Casey Hudson. He was saying that Shepard doesn't want to endanger his love interest. Mass Effect 3 is in Pre-Production at the moment.

Tali and Garrus. After two games, I've grown quite attached to them, and it would be a shame to develop their characters up to this point only to have them just kinda disapper now. Wrex or Grunt would be welcome, too. I'd be extremely upset if there wasn't at least one Krogan in my squad in ME3.
Tali and Garrus almost have to return. I wouldn't be surprised to see some others return as well. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some of the people you've helped come back to help you in the final battle against the Reapers... I could see a Geth or Krogan fleet coming to assist if you played your cards right the past couple games.
More Keith David dammit! Would also like to see Mordin and Wrex perform a duet of Gillbert and Sullivan in ME3.
I want Liara to be back in my squad for ME3, cos I don't think she has an option to die anywhere in either game. I have to agree with most people on here and say that most if not all of the companions will be coming back in more passing roles, maybe with the possible exception of the big name cast members, i.e. Miranda, EDI and joker. Also as i sidenote what do you lot think will happen if everyone dies, as i believe is possible?
i wish i could c mordin in concert hes the best singer =( and the only one who died on my mission . but mostly Ashely Williams my favorite alien racist in my party for ME3 hopefully
I want to see Shepard back with the Alliance. I want David Anderson and Ashley Williams back in bigger roles. I doubt it'll happen though.
Also Garrus.
Honestly, they can't write all of the ME2 squadmates out without a huge backlash. I expect all of the romance interests to come back in some way, as well as Legion, Wrex, Liara, and the Virmire survivor.
If they are going to make the game that Mass Effect 3 should be, I think they need to rework how the squad and party systems work. With Mass Effect 3, it will probably be less of building a small squad then mobilizing the galaxy and creating an army.
Mordin, Garrus, Thane, Jack, and Jacob. I'd also like to see Wrex return to killing. He looked so damn bored :(
Not exactly secret stuff here, it's kind of common sense. There is a chance for certain members to die (if not all of them), so the possibility of them returning as full-fledged characters is unlikely." @Venom09 said:

I'd like Tali to return back, since she (like everyone else in my crew) survived on my save. Wouldn't make sense for her to miss ME 3 if she's alive in the last two. Plus, she wasn't my love interest. Only time will tell, though. I'd say Mordin and Miranda returning too would be nice. In the latter case that was, well, Shepard's love interest. I started using Miranda and Mordin at the end, and all I have to say is wow. Great combo, in my opinion.

The only character that can return at this point is Liara. Or at least, she would be the easiest one for Bioware to make return.
I doubt she will though. It will most likely be a whole new party.
"I wanted Thane to be in the third game, but he's DEAD. *goes to cry* "
I feel your pain.
I would like to have Wrex back, but I know that can't be part of the main story because who knows how many even have him still alive. And I would assume that either Kaidan or Ashley comes back to your squad.
Honestly, I would love to know how the crew is going to be handled in the third game. From a story standpoint it would make sense that anyone who lives would stick with you and continue the fight. From a technical standpoint it would be a nightmare to try and deal with all the permutations of who is and isn't alive so you can't reliably make any of them a central part of the story. And if the did, the game would probably take years to make and be on 3 or four discs, requiring you to put in a new disc every time you talked to a different character.
I've never got the appeal of Tali.
I'd like to see Thane back and Zaeed as a more central dude. I'd also like Miranda back, because the hot chick from Chuck makes EVERYTHING better.
Also, Adam Baldwin should voice a squad member instead of a boring extra. Preferably a character called Jayne.

I'm amazed at how many people are into Tali. Unfortunately, I'm pretty certain that whatever role she has in 3 will be minor (probably similar to a Wrex style return home) since she quite clearly took a rocket to the face in my game and is no longer with us. Anyone who could die (which honestly seems to be all but a couple of NPCs) probably won't be that important
Paragon Route through Mass Effect 2
Kaidan / Ashley returns, they forgive you for dealing with Cerberus.
3-4 new characters added to roster.
All surviving squad members; except for Zaeed (because he is under Cerberus paycheck, and DLC) return to Roster.
Renegade Route through Mass Effect 2
3-4 new characters added to roster.
All surviving squad members return to roster.
Why do surviving squad member come back?
Clearly, more time was spent developing the Characters of Mass Effect 2 - they would not so easily be replaced in Mass Effect 3; the ending of the Mass Effect Trilogy.
Ties with Cerberus
The last decision of Mass Effect 2 clearly makes, or breaks your ties with Cerberus. I can imagine Bioware creating 6-8 new characters, either recruited by your own means, or by means of the Illusive Man. Should ties with Cerberus be broken, I foresee the return of Kaidan/Ashley, and the termination of Zaeed's contract (if Zaeed was fleshed out enough, it would be nice to tell whether or not he really cared about Cerberus or his paycheck).

I am not attacking you in any way, but I simply see this statement as false (the ME2 romances don't count part). I agree that if you cheated on someone it is going to bite you in ME3, but the romances in 2 still count in 3 and will come around again. I still believe they will show some level of importance in ME3. I am extremely doubtful that Bioware would introduce both Tali and Garrus romance options (long requested romances) and then disregard them in ME3 or make them not matter as you said.
Also, I did not romance in ME1, because both options, for me, were trash, so the third game would be pointless for me in terms of romancing goes. Ashley was annoying as hell in the way that she has that lame tough-girl attitude. Liara was just ugly and uninteresting. I hate the asari in ME universe.
