Start a new franchise and come back to Mass Effect after a few years have passed.

Mass Effect 3
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Mar 06, 2012
When Earth begins to fall in an ancient cycle of destruction, Commander Shepard must unite the forces of the galaxy to stop the Reapers in the final chapter of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
After ME3, what should Bioware do about the franchise?
" The Mass Effect universe is much too rich and developed to simply let die just for the sake of it. If they have an inspired and creative idea to continue the story with another character, possibly one of a race other than human, I'm all for it. "I agree. There is so much they can do with the Universe.
" I'd love them to give it to other developers. Providing there's a core Mass Effect team that are tasked with keeping the universe consistent and the canon in line, along with some quality control, I'd love to see different takes on this universe. "I don't know; I pretty much hated KOTOR II. This is an original IP by Bioware--there is no way they would give it up just like that.
" @Tylea002 said:Indeed, KOTOR was another developer making a game that bioware could make better. But Bioware only really makes good RPGs. The other developers could bring new genres of their expertese. I don't think anyone other than Bioware should even try making another RPG-style game (even though it's barely an RPG, but whatever), though I'd love to see, for example, Telltale do some Adventure Game on a Mass Effect minor planet. Or even some of the guys who worked on splinter cell making a C-Sec game. Things like this, rather than other developers taking the full Mass Effect burden. I'd just love some different views and explorations." I'd love them to give it to other developers. They can milk the shit out of this franchise for all I care. It's so big that there's endless possibilities.
I do think they should put Shepard to rest though. Spinning off into stories around the squad members and so on would be fun.
" @nirokogaseru said:If done right, that would be cool. But the only reason another developer would pick up the franchise (and pay the royalties) is if they knew it was going to be a hit, but the same conundrum that appears in Movie games appears here: why make a great game that will make a little money, when you can make a crappy game whose name will sell itself and make bukus of money?" @Tylea002 said:Indeed, KOTOR was another developer making a game that bioware could make better. " @Nasar7 said:If they're willing to make one of them canon (probably the default Earthborn/Sole Survivor) it would be doable." It's almost inconceivable that they wouldn't keep it going but with a new crew. Hell a prequel about Shepard's earlier years would be cool. "Maybe, but it would probably be hard to do given the different origin stories players can choose. "
" @FluxWaveZ said:They could make three small background scenarios where you choose Earthborn/Spacer/Colonist and then play War Hero/Sole Survivor/Ruthless scenarios." @Nasar7 said:If they're willing to make one of them canon (probably the default Earthborn/Sole Survivor) it would be doable. " @FluxWaveZ said:That would be such an asshole move of them. The whole point of Shepard is to allow the player to craft their own take on Shepard, with the gender, personality, and lifestyle. If they were to release a game that then sets in stone the canon for Shepard, it would pretty much demolish a lot of what made the Shepard series so endearing, and cheapen knowing that you may probably be playing the game with the ''wrong Shepard''." @Nasar7 said:If they're willing to make one of them canon (probably the default Earthborn/Sole Survivor) it would be doable. I know they've already got the male Shepard face set up as the default for the series, but I've only seen that just for the sake of the promotional work and that didn't label that Shepard as the canon.
I think we are thinking of different EA's is there another one on Jupiter that's actually good? EA is the perfect company to ruin a franchise. Thankfully they really don't mess with their good developers. They at least get that.
Let it fucking die and let other games live
i love Mass Effect, but that shepard mania needs to end. im sick of hearing about it everywhere and seeing it get all the awards
Which is precisely why they aren't giving Bioware's vision to another one of their developer's new EA wouldn't take that chance with a hit like Mass Effect. Yes, dead space is big, but ME is huge. I've noticed they walk around it like it was glass. Bioware is definitely in charge of ME. Then again that could be because Ray Myuza is a Senior Vice President for EA and Group General Manager of EA's developers.
@Abyssfull: Yeah it would detract from that aspect of the game but I wouldn't really mind if my Earthborn/War Hero Shepard was suddenly non-canon. I think it's ok for Bioware to reserve some power to establish a character at the expense of flexibility. Or alternately, the way you play the game would ultimately determine whether or not your Shep is a sole survivor, ruthless etc... i.e. multiple endings.
There are options, but id go with let the series die with dignity, usually after the second sequel its just milking a franchise, but if they managed to stay innovative and original hells yeah more Mass Effect pls. But if there is a fourth they they should probably kill off Shepard and go with a new character.
Absolutely nothing with Shepard (maaaaybe s/he could show up as an auxiliary character in a different game) but with a universe as developed as the one they've built, they could really go anywhere. I'd like to see games that aren't shooters set in the ME universe. I think on a Bombcast awhile ago someone said something about a private detective solving Citadel crimes. Something like that could be AWESOME.
haha... It's just funny that in the process of criticizing him for a lesser mistake, I made an even greater one.
Why not call them Mass Effect? It's not like those words have any direct relationship with the story of ME 1-3. It's part of the universe." Have more games in the Universe, but don't call them Mass Effect. An RTS set in the Universe would be awesome. And give the idiots their space marines FPS. "
And, I've said it before. After ME3 we'll get Mass Effect Wars, Mass Effect 3: N7, and a prequel, Mass Effect: First Contact.

"Haven't BioWare gone on to say that Mass Effect won't stop when the third one ends, but it will be the end of Shepherd's story?
I mean, that makes sense from a universe perspective. You end with one giant story, but continue to tell past, current and future stories with other characters and races and continue to build on this great fiction that has been crafted. Why not explore more of it?
