Mass Effect 3
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Mar 06, 2012
When Earth begins to fall in an ancient cycle of destruction, Commander Shepard must unite the forces of the galaxy to stop the Reapers in the final chapter of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
"Earth Is Burning" In Mass Effect 3
Is Commander Shepard an Alliance marine, a Spectre, a Cerberus operative, or some sort of force unto his own?
The answer is actually all of these.
Reapers: A race of Bio Machines that destroys civilization every 50,000 years , that enslaves the most prominent of the races to use them as they see fit , but if they see a worthy species they will make a reaper out of them. They are a highly advance civilization , that lives / stays dormant in dark space as they wait for another space civilization to develop , in a specific way though the Mass Relays and the citadel , such strategy has proven many times effective that no contention plan was ever developed ... so on and so forth. Things that remain to be know about the reapers what caused/ them to be like that , were they always a cyborg race or were they created by someone etc. Thats very interesting . Also which are your so called "plot holes"? It seems to me that you dont pay attention and are too lazy to figure stuff out.
Will have to model my Sheppard to look like Peter Garret now.
"How do we dance while the earth is turning"
"How can we sleep when our beds are burning"
This is literally the greatest thing that's happened to me all week. Mass Effect is the best new franchise of this generation. Hands down.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! GOING TO EARRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ROADTRIP!!! My level of exictment for this game now just went through the roof. There is literally a hole in my roof right now.
" @Glak said:Yes, it was said that it would be a trilogy, I don't remember where the original quote came from, bat Wikipedia agrees, in any case. They have said that the end of the trilogy wouldn't spell the end of games in the ME universe though." I hope the entire game doesn't revolve around taking back Earth, that would be sorta lame "Maybe it's the second third or so? Was it ever said that Mass Effect was to be a trilogy? If so then the first third could be gathering forces, second taking back Earth, and the third being taking on the Reapers. If all that happens in the third is just taking back Earth... well I guess it's WAY too early to speculate anyways so whatever. "
Oh man, Halo 3 is finally coming out????
In all seriousness though, this sounds way better than the bullshit story of ME2. I wanted something way bigger, and this sounds like it's exactly what ME should be about. Lets hope it's a little less full of loose and open ends.
Earth is where this story has to go. I never thought of it before, but it makes perfect sense. The Reapers are being held in check by (essentially) one human and a bunch of sidekicks. Of course they would go to the source to try to kick humanity in the huevos. (That would be a great tagline for an alternate-continuity spinoff game where you play the evil side. Mass Effect 3: REAPERS Edition - Kick Humanity In The Huevos!)
So excited. Almost as excited as I am for Uncharted 3, and I am SUPER excited for Uncharted 3, so that is a big thing. This is probably the game that is tied with Uncharted as my favorite game series.
I just recently got into the ME games. I was late in playing them. I'm not even done with the 2nd one and I'm already excited for this one.
" Isn't this the third time robots have tried to take over the universe in Mass Effect? I loved ME2 but this is kind of disappointing to me. "Like, did you not see the ending to ME2? Pretty sure it means that attack. You know, what the trilogy's been leading up to.
" I don't know if I like the Earth focus. ME's never been about saving the human race, it's been about the first real attempt at preservation of galactic civilization against the Reapers. Boo to human exceptionalism. "ME2 was ALL about saving the humans. Cerberus exists exactly for that purpose, Shepard joined them to find out what was happening to the human colonies and we found out that the Reapers were coming for Earth.
I almost feel bad for typing that, as this is huge spoilers for any PS3 fans who haven't played ME2 yet. But the product description for ME3 alone is spoilers, so I'm not going to bother tagging it.
I'm strangely unexcited about this, guess the the fact that I haven't been motivated to finish ME2 as something to do with it.
- Why did Shepard choose to work with a known terrorist agency rather than the Citadel Council or the Alliance, two groups who Shepard knows are actually on his side? Fun fact: the reason they deny Shepard is because he/she is working with Cerberus. Whoops! Should have asked them before teaming up with the outlaws, huh? Fun fact 2: the Sole Survivor background states that Shepard's entire unit was wiped out by thresher maws in a Cerberus experiment, and left permanent psychological scars on him/her. Quick to forgive I guess?
Answer: They brought him back to life, they're the only people in the galaxy who realize the Reaper threat, they don't have to abide by all the silly laws that hold the Alliance back. There's three reasons right there. And no, he's not quick to forgive. Every single time somebody mentions Cerberus you're given the choice of telling them what total dicks they are and how you're only with them to fight the Reapers.
- Why does Shepard and crew leave the Normandy aboard the shuttle, especially when in every other situation Shepard only ever takes two people? We're never given an explanation for it, ever. But we get to play as Joker so we're not supposed to think about it, I guess.
It's implied that you take every crew member down with you every time, but the two people with you is just a gameplay mechanic. Remember how Garrus and Liara and Tali would talk about old times? They talk as if they were there. They never mention the two people thing, it's always "just like old times on Virmire, right?" and so on.
- Why doesn't Shepard show the Council the derelict Reaper as evidence for their existence, or at least to rally support from the Alliance or even the common people? You'd think that'd get them off their asses, but the option doesn't exist.
Because Sovereign was a Reaper and the Council refused to accept it. They very clearly state that Sovereign is a geth warship. They will say the exact same thing about the derelict Reaper. Denial, eh?
- What was the goal behind the plague on Omega? It's never explained why the Collectors would want to generate anti-human sentiment.
Because it's a minor plot detail? But think about it. Why would the Collectors want people to turn on humans during the time they're stealing humans? Hmmmm.
- Why are the only options during the endgame to destroy the Collector ship or hand it to Cerberus? There's no more threat from it - wouldn't turning it over to the Alliance or the Citadel be the ultimate proof of Shepard's deeds? But meh, splosions are cool right?
If you think Cerberus would let that happen, you're mistaken. They couldn't stop Shephard blowing it up, but you clearly see all their ships arriving to the base if you keep it. They won't give it up, and the Paragon ending shows that Cerberus isn't against making Shephard an enemy.
- Why are the Collectors such a damned mystery? You'd think there'd be way more security footage of them, emergency transmissions from terrified colonists, etc. Don't the seeker swarms only work outdoors as well? Where are all the survivors in underground complexes and stuff, like the mechanic guy you rescue? It's pretty damn implausible that they're such an urban legend after decades. Galactic espionage must be lagging behind.
You're assuming a lot of things there. But the gist I got was that the Collectors hadn't been active for very long. They existed, sure. But their kidnapping operations weren't exactly decades old, or that Reaper would have been more then half finished.
- Why didn't Shepard send any probes into the Omega-4 relay to see if it was hostile before-hand? Charging in blindly is a pretty awesome way to guarantee your suicide mission will be just that.
Have we ever seen a probe go through a mass relay? Plus, the Omega-4 relay is famous because everyone who enters it doesn't come back. If they had a way of communication through that thing, it wouldn't be so mysterious. Assuming the probe isn't instantly destroyed.
- Where did Mordin get the Collector bug from? I guess he... what, created one from scratch through biological engineering? Found one in the bathroom one morning? Bought it from a pet store? Cross-bred other species?
I have no idea where he got it from. Plot hole? Nope. Anything that is unexplained isn't a plot hole.
- How are Shepard and Friends able to identify the Collectors as ex-Protheans? Even assuming their genetic structure was intact, there were no known remnants of Protheans beyond artifacts, and certainly no DNA, corpses or anything else. There'd be nothing to compare the Collectors' genetics to.
I believe it was EDI who got into their ships systems to get that information. Isn't too much of a stretch to beleive that information was in there for the taking.
- Why does Cerberus choose to resurrect Shepard? It seems like a total waste to spend billions of credits on bringing Shepard back. As capable as he/she is, Shepard is just one man/woman. You could get a large mercenary army or a fleet of ships for that kind of cash, and considering the ambiguity of the Collector threat, it'd make a lot more sense to pick those over one extraordinary human soldier. Not so much a plot hole so much as just Cerberus being stupid in order to justify the game's story.
Being stupid? Not really. The Reapers want Shephard, if you listened to anything Harbinger said. He's special, somehow. He makes things happen that nobody else could. This is an ongoing thread in the series that will be explained in the last game, I bet. The Illusive Man knows stuff.
- Why does Wilson (the guy who reprograms the security droids at the Cerberus base during the intro) choose to kill everyone? He just spent years working on a miracle of modern medicine and the first thing he does is pull an extremely risky stunt for no explained reason?
It was explained, he was an agent of the Shadow Broker. And Shephard and the Shadow Broker have a history.
- Carrying on from that, how was Shepard even resurrected? After burning up in orbit there would be literally nothing left of him/her. I guess it was for dramatic effect that he/she died that way, but it's still pretty unbelievable, and it all gets hand-waved with a bunch of techno-jargon.
Hint: The game is unbelievable. Mass Effect fields, Reapers, the fact you can't have sexy time with Wrex. All explained with techo-jargon. Welcome to sci-fi : D
- Why do Cerberus ships fly around with their logo proudly displayed on their wings? Why do Cerberus uniforms have the group's logo? Aren't they known terrorists? Doesn't seem very discrete, but I guess The Illusive Man knew that nobody would take note that the super-advanced prototype stealth cruiser was flying the Jolly Roger.
They're an organisation. Terrorist is a subjective term. They beleive they are doing good., the Alliance disagrees.
- What's the deal with the Collector controller guy? Not really a plot hole, but he appears in cutscenes and it's implied he has some link to Shepard. Sounds like a story idea that was dropped late in production due to lack of time, otherwise there'd be no reason for it to be there.
This above anything else shows you didn't understand much of the game. The Collector controller guy was being possessed the entire game by Harbinger, just like Saren was being possessed at the end of ME. This is why all throughout the game Harbinger will take control of a collector and talk to you. The Reapers want you, that's made clear. The Shadow Broker was going to sell Shephards body to the Reapers. Shephard is important. That's why when the Collector ship is destroyed, we have that cut scene where the controller guy's eyes stop glowing and he is confused, just before he dies. The Reapers dropped their control of him.
Hope this will clear a few things up. The Mass Effect story is huge and complex and it's easy to miss a lot of the small details ;)
