Mass Effect 3
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Mar 06, 2012
When Earth begins to fall in an ancient cycle of destruction, Commander Shepard must unite the forces of the galaxy to stop the Reapers in the final chapter of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
What Class Do You Play As? ME3
Adept
The fact that my Shepard won't be confined to a goddamn pistol is incredibly exciting.

Vanguard.Really? I thought Vanguard seemed horrible, it's just that teleporting power, do you just have to learn how to use it not not die when you use it to teleport into a group of enemies?
Charge isn't very effective (on anything above veteran), but try and tell me that it isn't the funnest power to use.
I've played vanguard since ME1, where it was mostly about flanking with up close shotgun fire and using grenades to flush enemies out (and of course pistol for fine aiming). Not to mention some handy biotics for getting dudes out in the open.@TheHT said:

In ME2, you just gotta be clever with where and when you're going to do that rush teleport lunge biotic thing. See a bunch of weak enemies? Rush to them and watch their bodies all fly from the impact. See an enemy lingering behind your main opposition force? Rush to them, kill 'em, and now you've got a tactical advantage as you blow how shotgun space lead in their unassuming assholes. Getting your own rear end assaulted? Rush to an elsewhere enemy to get the heck out of there.
Great for closing distance and quickly maneuvering about the battlefield. You can get to a point where you're zipping around laying waste to everything while your squadmates try to catch a kill. And it looks fucking rad.
Vanguard. Weapons and biotics = my playstyle. Being able to leap around the battlefield is pretty useful. Oh, and shotguns.
I'm going engineer, but I recommend that everyone go either Sentinel or Adept. They are the craziest of all.
Soldier. But once Im done, in thinking of playing as a renegade vanguard FemShep starting at ME and going up to ME3.
I like to play Adept. Explode guys with singularity and warp or pulling an enemy then using throw to watch them fly like 200 yards is a lot of fun.
@Venatio:
I've played Vanguard since ME1. Back then they were still about high-risk high-reward, but they were mostly just shotgun-toting walking shields. The teleport-smash introduced in ME2 made me even more happy that they're my class and play style. Now, in ME3, with the introduction of the shockwave outburst that depletes your shield to damage all nearby enemies for the amount of shield dispersed I am even more into the Vanguard. Since the teleport-smash replenishes your shields (even if they're depleted to zero) you can let your shield get sapped, then teleport-slam a group, and then unleash the shockwave to send them all sailing through the air; all the while spraying shotgun fire. Maybe throw a fist full of biotic punch in their face afterwards if they're still alive.
I played the infiltrator and was into the stealth and the applications of skill-usage while still being cloaked of that profession as well. Also the adept was fairly appealing to me. I've never really tried one too much and I was pretty surprised at how powerful they are with another adept around. It actually seemed too easy.
Soldier is the least appealing class to me. If I wanted a simple run-n-gun playstyle I would go play Gears of War. I want special powers...and what is better than the Vanguard's teleportation while momentarily slowing down time so you can shoot them with a shotgun and then emit a 360 degree force shockwave to send their shotgun riddled bodies hurling through the air?
Nothing that I know of, not in the Mass Effect universe anyway. I'm happy to see Vanguard getting a lot of love, I thought for sure that Soldier would be sitting at the top.
Soldier. I like the idea of a regular-ass human with no powers taking down all sorts of aliens with mind powers and junk. Guns all the way!
Also, at this point, it'd be weird for me to change his class after two games of him being a soldier. He's not going to randomly develop biotic powers, right? (Cue someone telling me about some book or something where it is possible for that to happen.) At least not after ME2 where they cyborg'd him up.
I'm gonna stick with Soldier even if it's just for one playthrough for continuity. I'm really not looking forward to waiting for half a minute before Adrenaline Rush to recharge though.
Engineer all the way the finally made them distinct enough in Mass Effect 2 and after playing the demo of 3 pretty much confirmed that they made the class even better, the combat drone is more resilient, the sabotage ability is back and oh I don't know Turrets! I love playing as a class that dosn't rely on just guns and can win battles debilitating the enemy and overwhelming the battlefield AI drone + hacked robot + turret + 2 team members and yourself that's is pretty much all you need. I also got my ass kicked when I used the infiltrator I don't know what can they do if you don't have a sniper rifle, they don't give you one in the demo and the only other class that I really like is the Adept I just think they are much more fun to play because there are not many (if any) shooters out there that don't rely on just having many guns but all the classes in Mass Effect are super fun to use anyways I like all of them but the Engineer is my favorite.

Solider, 'cause I'm boring like that. I always feel like I should use another class to liven up the experience, but I look at their abilities and none of them interest me. Why use some biotic bullshit on a dude when I can shoot him in the head and he'll die?
Because the "biotic bullshit" has always been the most fun way to kill guys in mass effect. I really don't see why so many people go for soldier when all the other classes make the games combat so much more interesting and diverse. Then again most people would rather play and finish any game as quickly and easily as possible so its no surprise soldier is the most played.

They added Nova, which helps, and you can also adjust the spec of your Biotic Charge to give you more armour and affect more enemies, so it's easier to bounce into groups. If you combine that with some sick shotgunning then you shouldn't have any problems.
You have to consider though, that there's a time and a place for that ability. In the same way that a Pull or Singularity might not always be appropriate, you shouldn't be blindly charging into groups of enemies. I played through ME2 as a vanguard and loved it. The only real flaw is when you play on Insane because your armour and health is stupidly reduced - but in fairness, that game is pretty tough on Insane with EVERY class.

Vanguard(biotic charge) may be fun on normal but sucks on the hardest diffuculty.
Not if you know how to properly vanguard! I think vanguard is the only class I can tackle insanity with in ME2.
Its all about knowing when to Charge. You should Always Be Charging, sure, but you have to pick the right targets and make use of that nifty shield regen.

I have beaten insanity with Infiltrator and Adept. I can do it with vanguard too but I probably won't use the biotic charge at all because it will be a suicide.

Get really good with the Vanguard in ME2 on Insanity, and you'll clear rooms twice as fast as any other class and be on the edge of your seat the whole time. I will say, though, that losing invincibility when your shields drop may mean you need to be quite a bit more conservative in ME3 than before.
As for myself, I played every class with the exception of Soldier multiple times (got halfway through ME2, then got bored). Only one class have I played through both games 10 times (and starting an 11th for ME3): Adept. Warpsplosions are too good.
Soldier like the last two games, I only play through the game once and I experience the most out of it that way. If I want biotic abilities that's what teammates are for.

I've just played through ME2 on insanity as a vanguard, and charge was pretty much the only power I used. Heavy Charge gives you 100% shields every time you use it, and the claymore shotgun up close is devastating against most enemies. It's a risk/reward style of play, but it's fun and completely doable.
Played Soldier and Adept in ME1. Vanguard, Infiltrator and Soldier in ME2.
Undecided for ME3.
Tried Vanguard - I love the idea of the charge, as I wanted something to increase the pace of the game... but Mass Effect are rather deliberately paced games - trying to force it just gets you killed really quickly.
I may give the demo a go with an Adept. But I may end up just playing as a Soldier, or Infiltrator... hm. :P
I played through once with Vanguard on the demo and found it much improved from the Vanguard in ME2. I may consider playing it for my full game playthrough. Then again, I haven't tried adept and I do LOVE the biotic stuff.
In ME1 I was a vanguard then a solider, quit that, made a Adept with a Assault rifle and had so much fun on insanity because singularity gets so big and stays so long entire rooms are sent orbiting around. In ME2 i was an engineer and I'm in the middle of an adept play through. I'll play adept in ME3 because i think that is the most interesting class, even if some powers are nerfed.
So adepts and engineers can use all the weapons now? What's the point of playing soldier if that's true?
I might go vanguard, but since the PC controls and the cover mechanic is incredibly clunky, I might not.

I hope we can decide how many weapons to take into battle which will affect your power recharge time(like the co-op stuff) because I don't like shotguns at all. The only weapons I need are a pistol, a sniper rifle and maybe a smg.
@Nottle: yeah, I think that's how it works, I think I saw something that hinted at Soldiers (Singleplayer, in the demo) being able to "unlock" skills/talents that lessens the penalty for carrying more.
I think.

Yeah what is the deal with the cool downs. At the begining of the demo when your low leveled the cool down is like just a few seconds. Then later even if the powers are upgraded the cool down is way longer.

I think you can choose any type weapon you want but you're limited by the number of weapons you can carry or something wich I don't mind I play as an engineer and I don't need too many guns a small rifle/pistol and a sniper will do the AI drone is so much better this time ,and I barely use my guns with my Adept female Shepard in ME2, though people will still play the soilder for some reason
I played an engineer in ME2. Honestly, the enemy AI goes bonkers for the attack drone and when they get all distracted, I just light them up with the sniper rifle (got the training on the Collector vessel). It's also nice having abilities that can damage both shields (Overload) and armor/health regen. (Incinerate). I've never actually invested in AI Hacking because I opted to advanced train for the Barrier ability and invest in that all the way - it makes my Shepard damn near invincible, honestly. Maybe I will respec and try AI hacking sometime, though the attack drone occupies mechs with aplomb...

I just tested it. In the beginning when you have only a pistol the singularity recharges in 2.5 sec or something. At the end of the mission when I picked up the assault rifle I noticed an increase of the recharge times of my two skills. So basically, yeah... the more weapons you are carrying the longer your powers will recharge. God-Emeperor, I hope we will be able to decide how many weapons we carry in SP. Pistol only HERE I COME! Adept ftw :)
Edit: In second part of the SP demo you are carrying 4 weapons which makes the recharge time of powers ridiculous.
Edit 2: Weapons increase your weight which is the thing increases the cd of powers. It's not just "number of weapons". I wonder if the weapon mods increase the weight...
