    Do you have windows VIsta?
If you do, go into your Mass Effect folder, then Binaries ( i think ) and look for your MassEffect.exe.
Right click it and run it as Administrator.

    That worked for me.

sadly it's DRM issues like this that prevent me from handing Bioware my money.  I am an honest consumer who would like to buy new games, but if it has a DRM on it, I refuse, especially DRM of the ME kind that spawns thousands upon thousands of legit complaints

I played Mass Effect on my PC and the only problem I had was some slowdown during firefights. I have Windows XP: service pack 3.

I run Vista where I heard ME PC was actually having some problems unlike XP, and I've had none what so ever. Buy it on Steam also, Hexpane if you hate DRM issues. Its just steams own policy there, EA's bullshit DRM garbage isn't present at all.

Skeletor, do you have a NVidia card? From what I've seen on the Bioware forums, GPFs often result from NVidia cards + certain fairly recent drivers. For most people, the only solution is to roll back drivers, though I've seen people post that getting some of the very latest drivers may solve it too.

    See this: http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=659445&forum=127

And if that doesn't help here's a massive GPF thread: http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=631450&forum=127

I clicks on it and it works.

You should reformat, that solves everything.

I've been running it fine on Vista Home Premium (64-bit) and Windows 7 beta (64-bit).  I had to modify the .exe to run as Administrator in Windows 7 (i have UAC turned off in Vista), but my Vista game save copied right over and i've had no issues playing in either OS.

Removing DRM is legal as far as I know?  Considering most DRM is illegal and violates various consumer protections.  I don't want to pirate, I just don't want crappy software crippling my PC
