Bullet Point Review: Mass Effect (XB360) 0

What I liked: Story - The overall story line in ME is amazing and really draws you in. The ending sets up part 2 really well and I'm looking forward to see what happens next. Mako - The Mako is the vehicle you drive around in. Although it needs to control better like say, the Warthog from Halo, it is a really fun buggy to boot around in.   What I didn't like: Glitchy - ME is full a little graphical bugs. Screen tearing, frame rate issues, and texture pop-in all combine to really annoy the playe...

    Oh Shepard, my Shepard 0

Some games have an uncanny way of holding up to the test of time and remaining great games. Super Mario Bros, a Link to the Past, the original Halo; all these games are among those who's quality does not age. With the imminent release of Mass Effect 2 before us, I felt it was prudent to revisit the original game and see how it holds up.  The game's replayability was the easiest part to analyze, since it could easily be judged based upon whether or not I continued playing the game. On this basis?...

this game will EFFECT you MASSively 0

this game effected me massively and in more ways than one.  the first way it effected me massively was to allow me to shoot at people with various kind of weapons.  i loved to shoot people and mass effect allowed me to pursue this interest in a virtual science fiction setting. i was also effected massively by that sexy dame on the cover with curves that don't quit.  When you see her in the game, you'll want her to keep that helmet on though because boy, her face and her harpy lips and mouth are ...

An epic story coupled to an average game 0

That score of 4 stars is one that I think I'll constantly think about more than other reviews. Why? Cause anything lower would undermine the quality and production values of the game yet the wide range of issues I have with it don't seem to warrant a 4. Which is why I sort of feel like that guy right now: you know..., the one guy surrounded by people who love a certain something and everyone going "man isn't it perfect and amazing?" and you put your hand up and go "well...not exactly" in a small...

    Space Opera meets Sci-Fi 0

You may know that Bioware made a fantastic game called Knights of the Old Republic, and the only reason you could've disliked that game is because you absolutely loathe the Star Wars universe.   Multiple endings based on your altruistic/complete dickhole ratings that persuaded you to play the game at least twice to see just how different situations can turn out.  You also had parties where you could have two team mates to roam around with you, like every other single Bioware game ever made in ex...

Mass Effect Box Art - All Platforms Great game design is that which can stand the test of time, games like Zelda Ocarina of Time and Pac Man, simply outshine themselves in great design even when technically they may not be as beautiful as we remember them. Now Mass Effect was only released in 2007, but with expectations rising each year for games both technically and by design, could it still hold up as being a great game and not become the subject of rose tinted glasses of time? Well, never...

    Complex yet Incredible 0

With no prior bioware series experience, I did not know what i was getting myself into. However given as a gift I thought I would give it a shot, here's the result: Graphics: The absolute best facial expressions and character models i've seen in video games, hands down. Emotion and meaning is conveyed through them to the point where seeing two people talk became enjoyable no matter what the topic. However, environments while exploring in the mako were rather bland and helped hinder those...

An Epic Adventure with Some Faults 0

Mass Effect, a unique world and story created for BioWare exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PC. In Mass Effect you play as the main protagonist,  Commander Shepard. When the game begins you can create you own customized character or you can choose to play with the default pre-made character. The customizing elements are well thought out and let you take full control of your characters full appearance, from sex, body look, hair style, and a whole bunch of other things. The story involves Commander Sh...

Title: Mass EffectCapsule Summary: As with all BioWare games, there is at least one element of Mass Effect that is excellent, but unfortunately, as with all BioWare games there are more that are uneven in quality, some of them game breakers.Review:You can tell that some groups of BioWare were really into what they were doing. The teams in charge of capturing the expressions of real people and putting them into the digital avatars. The directors in charge of voice acting. The designers who crafte...

Massive Game with Effective Story Telling 0

So Mass Effect has arrived and I am delighted to say that the master of Western RPG's as well as story telling in games has just been declared. This game is immense, immersive and impeccable in every way. Commander Shepard is that hero we have always wanted to be, whether you are a alien and human and synthetic and everything loving paragon or a shoot first and never ask question renegade Mass Effect is the game for you! (Even if you're the kinda good kinda bad Han Solo of video games).Graphics: ...

    Mass Effect of Consequences 0

Mass Effect for the Xbox 360 is a great game. First game I've played where my choices may lead to greatness or consequences. It took awhile to get used to it since I've never played a game like it before. I did die multiple times, especially towards the ending. I've rated it four out of five because of the little things that bothered me, like the long elevator rides which was the loading of the next part of the map. Its the start of a fun and great story in my opinion. I do feel bad about killin...

The Beginning of an Epic Story 0

Mass Effect marks the beginning of an, in the truest sense of the word, epic space opera, a rich, expanded universe, and pages and pages of history and mythology. Five years, two sequels, DLC missions, four novels, two iOS games, a plethora of comics, and an anime later, it’s difficult to look at Mass Effect without the lens of time and expanded universe. My initial excitement and investment proved in good faith and I have fallen down a deep hole. I tell you this so that you will please bear wit...

    Nomin's Mass Effect Review 1

Bioware's next generation RPG is a grand space opera action romp with its requisite sweeping and epic plot and twists that will wrap your head around and suck you into their extensively constructed world full of wonder and wasted potential. The premise of the game has been to meld action elements catering to the masses weaned on Halo with the RPG elements particular to Bioware and polish it until you get the sense that you're playing a Jack Bauer in space. For the most part, the aim of this potp...

Pretty and Witty, No Variety. 0

Mass Effect looks amazing and sounds amazing if you have the proper computer. Voice acting really immerses you into the story which is also a really good one. The game also comes packed with tons of content, and this is where the game problems start to come out. The game lacks content execution. Meaning there a lot of weapons and armors but they all look the same. Many places to go and explore but they all look the same. A lot of side missions but they all feel the same. Catch my drift? Mass Eff...

The best game in the last 6 years! 4

I always dream of space;of what's out there.Surely, there's somebody else out there. We can't possibly be the only living things in the Universe. But our technology advances fast,& if somebody doesn't get to us soon, maybe we'll get to them. That's what happened in Mass Effect.Well,in year 2148,humanity has descovered on Mars a constuction of alien origin. After numerous studies,it was discovered that it was in fact built by the Protheans,an extinct race which disappeared over 50000 years ago.8 ye...

    A missed opportunity. 2

Let's just take this step-by-step.1.) The much-heralded "new" dialogue system. The conversation system in Mass Effect was hyped to be this total re-invention of RPG dialogue systems. By giving the player multiple abbreviated conversational "tones", you could steer the conversation naturally, without getting buried reading your own dialogue options and instead just going with a briefly described tone of speech, and watch the drama unfold. In reality, the dialogue system in Mass Effect is a re-ski...

To fantastic for words to convey! 0

Mass Effect, the hottest game to come out on the 360 finally comes out for the pc, the first question in everyone's minds is that is the game going to be that good? Well the fact is that it is worth buying for anyone out there. Gameplay wise, its essentially the same as the 360 version, but with a few tweaks for the pc market, such as the obvious mouse and keyboard setup, and hud interface which gives you the power to order your individual troops around. The boys at bioware went into alot of tr...

Near perfect mix of tactic shooter, rpg and space exploration 0

Unlike Bioshock and a few other modern console ports, Mass Effect does not support a gamepad, so I had to go with mouse and keyboard, which however worked quite fine, as the UI of Mass Effect has been changed quite a bit to work well with mouse and keyboard. The game puts you in the shoes of Shepard on a quest to save the galaxy. RPG typical you can create a custom character at the start of the game and as always I chosed to pretty much skip that step and go with one of the provided default chara...

This amazing game will keep surprising you .. 0

The game is one of the absolute best that i have ever played (if not THE best). The main highlight of the game according to me would be the story, which keeps surprising you with the plot. The game doesn't necessarily emphasize on decision making, but how tactful you are defines how successful you may be. The story in short is about a guy named Shepard, who becomes the commander of a ship called Normandy. He then has to pursue a traitor of the council, and along the way uncovers many conspirac...

Underwhelming Story, Impressive Art Direction... 0

I was most excited to play Mass Effect because the story was rumored to be one of the greatest in recent years. Suffice to say I was rather disappointed. If 2nd rate science fiction, with predictable plot lines and uninspiring dialogue is your thing, then jump right in - you'll probably love it. If you were expecting a wonderfully original and sincere story on the other hand, well...hopefully you'll have better luck than I did. That's not to say that Mass Effect is a bad game. Everything else ab...

masterpiece. buy it . support bioware. 0

Mass effect is without a doubt one of the best games ever made, it has some flaws but when you look at it in its majority you cannot help but give it a pure 10/10.The story like all the games of bioware is of epic scale, i am not gonna give any spoilers here, just saying the story rivals star wars in my opinion. The story sucks you in SO badly you wish it was all true. It just is SO sci-fi and EPIC and AWESOME and INNOVATIVE and ...and.. and...The graphics are superb , a massive jump forward fr...

    Mass Effect 0

I've mentioned before that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the game that got me into western RPGs. So I guess it's not a surprise that I quite enjoyed BioWare's return to the science fiction landscape. Mass Effect takes place within its own original universe, although the influences on both the design and the setting from that game and other classic science fiction are obvious. Without being a real expert on the history of the genre, I'd say the two most obvious influences on...

God bless you Steam Holiday Sale. Undoubtedly the best £3 I've ever spent. I really had no interest in this when it came out. After all the good reviews, everything people said about it and seeing some videos, I started to gain an interest but still not enough to buy it. In fact when it first came out there wasn't a PC version and I dont think I even had an Xbox. When it came up on the Steam sale over Christmas for £3, I bought it without a second thought. I didn't intent on playing it right aw...

"Well, I Guess We Do This The Hard Way." 0

Imagine you live in a game world where important characters can die. Not just the characters you meet in your travels, but your actions could cause your own squad to die. Now imagine that your actions will have an effect over not just the one game, but every game in the trilogy. Thus you have, Mass Effect. All screenshots are taken by myself.  Mass Effect is a world that encompasses all we know and love with science fiction. Space colonies? Check. Ancient, extinct civilizations that were mysteri...

Mass Effect: live the future 0

To begin with let me tell you the following: I played both the Xbox and PC versions and I can tell you, must tell you to get a 360 controller for your PC to play it. Mass Effect has been designed to be controlled with a game pad.The game looks fantastic; I got it running at 1280x768 px in full-screen mode —all settings in medium and no dynamic shadows— on a AMD Phenom II X4 920 at 2.80 GHz with 4 GB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 210 card with 1Gb of DDR2 RAM. I only experienced some hiccups when t...

A deep and engaging experience 0

I have avoided playing the Mass Effect series due to my aversion to sci-fi and I can proudly say that I think that this very game might have cured me from this very inaptitude to appreciate a ghost space-sage.The game's core claim to fame is its story and great characters and what a valid point it is. Despite a handful of gameplay and GUI issues, I could never stop playing this game for a prolonged period of time because I wanted to see how the story unfolds and first and foremost, what would be...

Ambitious game with huge positives, but terrible terrible combat 0

Mass Effect is a daring, innovative game in a few important ways. It has a creative role-playing system, a brand new setting, a lot of well-written dialog, and a beautiful presentation, and that is why it is at least tolerable. However, combat in Mass Effect is awful. It is so poorly designed and so riddled by poor AI that it almost single-handedly spoils what is otherwise a memorable experience. It is still a quality RPG, because it still has a lot of redeeming qualities, but it has some major ...

    Bioware does their thing. 0

Mass Effect has some aspects that are good indicators that the game is interesting and deserves to be played. It's an RPG, but not an ordinary RPG, a Bioware RPG. The company that blessed the gaming world with classic titles within the genre certainly has good stuff in store for a new release. It's also a relief that people embrace the fact that RPGs are not just orcs, elves and fairies wielding swords combining magic potions in a Tolkien style fantasy world. The futuristic style is, if not grou...

    Mass Effect Throwback 0

Mass Effect Throwback Review Mass Effect. What else can be said about a game that is already so highly thought of. A game where almost everything has been talked about and or said. Mass Effect is the first game in the Mass Effect series and the first game in the original Mass Effect series. You play as Commander Shepard, a human part of the Systems Alliance N7, what does that equate to? The galaxy special forces baby. At the start of the game you are given the choice to decide Commander Shep...
