"Collecting evidence had gotten old a few hundred bullets back. I was already so far past the point-of-no-return I couldn't even remember what it had looked like when I had passed it."
Max Payne to me is the perfect single player game. It doesn't focus on telling me a story by giving me generic cover gameplay, nor does it focus on giving me gameplay by sacrificing the story with Bolo Santosi. It delivers story on a highly intelligent film-caliber emotional level, gives you some of the best most dynamic and challenging (and moddable) third person shooting action including jumping puzzles and stealth moments, very sexy and unique noir visual style, and an overall lengthy experience. God bless this game!
I just recently played through the first two games, I had a lot of fun with the story and gameplay. Their is something about the bullet time mechanic that makes it awesome even today.
I liked both of them. Sometimes I'd be dying at a hard spot and realize I'm not using my bullet time. Then it'd be too easy, the game really is about tactically using your bullet time. 10x so on hard, I remember going through Max Payne 2 on the hardest setting. I got up to the last fight but never finished, I just went for a "I'll come back later" and never did.
The ONE gripe I have about Max Payne 1 and 2 is that there is no checkpoint system.
I get way into the games that I forget about quicksaving and then end up dying near the end of a level. Rage does the same thing and it instantly makes me turn off the game.
no, i enjoyed it. but the best game i ever played... no.
Who said anything about it being the best game? We're talking most fun, not best.
I got this game 4 days before I got my first PS3 game. I stopped shortly after the dream sequence. I don't think I was using bullet time enough and I couldn't find enough pain killers. The PS2 version wasn't the good version to begin with so that probably didn't help. It hasn't aged particularly well either. I did get drunk and laugh at how bad it is once about a year and half ago. That was fun.
I can't say that. It's not even close to being the most fun I've had with a game. In fact, it might have been the most dreary and boring time I've had with a game.
Never played a Max Payne game so I can't really say I had fun with them.
but what can you almost really say about them? :)
what I can say is that Max Payne 1 and 2 are still just as fun when I replay them as they were when they came out. Story holds up, gameplay does, too. But: what was bad before still sucks (=> dream sequences).
