    Solid snakes finest romp? 0

An interviewer once asked Producer/Director Hideo Kojima before the premiere of Metal Gear Solid – a decade ago now – if he named the new branch of the Metal Gear lore “Metal Gear Solid” because the protagonist’s name was Solid Snake. Kojima response was, “No, it’s Metal Gear Solid because it’s a ‘solid’ game!” Fortunately, that same cheesy statement applies ten years later to the final chapter of the canon MGS series. MGS4 starts out in the ‘not too distant future’ (a.k.a. 5 years later) with S...

MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots Review 0

It is games like this that make me proud to be a PS3 gamer.  I cannot believe the amount of detail and precision that went into creating this game.  This is Snakes final mission and I am upset that this is the last in the Solid Snake series.  The gameplay aspect has been overhauled compared to others in the series, and thats a good thing,  the controls are tight and repsond well with whatever you are trying to accomplish.  The graphics are the best that I have seen this generation on any console...

Presentation - 10Everything in this game has a real nice polish to it, and the presentation is no different. The cinematics are front and center once again but this time they mean business with the story line as this is supposed to be the last in the MGS series. The story starts you out 5 years after the events of Sons of the Patriots in the middle east where it’s a raging battlefield. Otacon is once again supporting you and he has a little Metal Gear Mark II that he controls. You learn that you...

Story: You basicly play Old Snake on his final mission taking him around the world in his quest to stop his Twin from basicly talking over the world. The game is presented in a very cinematic style with tons of cutscenes sometimes lasting way over 40min.. it's without a doubt the most artistic game ever released and would have made a great movie tooGameplay: The gameplay is not that special, you basicly start out at point A and have to get to point B in most cases - how you get there is up to you...

    2008 GOTY!!! 0

Everybody is familiar with Kojima's Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the final chapter in Snake's epic journey on the Playstation 3. I won't go into too many details in this review because most have already read the many praising reviews or experienced this great game by now. I'll keep it short and simple:Gameplay: 10 (5 stars)Sound: 10 (5 stars)Graphics: 10 (5 stars)Lasting Appeal: 10 (5 stars)Overall: 9.9 (5 stars)Now I'm sure you're asking, how can I give it 10s in all the major...

War has changed... and so has the landscape of gaming in 2008! 0

This game was everything I wanted it to be and more. The cutscenes were long but so well done it can easily be forgiven. This was Kojima's finest moment. Putting an end to a legend is never an easy thing to do. He did it with style and his own brand of humor. While maintaining an extremely poignant, somewhat relevant overview of what the future of war may soon become if some action is not taken. Along the way we feel sorrow for Snake, but the overtone of the story is a positive one. The ending i...

    You've done well Snake 0

Ahh MGS$, where to start? How bout this game is awesome. Everything about this game is awesome. And everything that bothered me in past MGS games is now awesome. From the moment you put the disc in, there is non-stop action. Traveling country to country and watching the story unfold with beautiful in-game cutscenes. Sometimes the story can be a little over the top but it really doesn't matter at this point. Personally the biggest improvement for this game was the controls. The controls are reall...

    Metal Gear Solid 4 0

There are numerous reasons why Metal Gear Solid 4 is not only the best game on the ps3 but also frankly one of the best games of this generation. From it's dynamic story to its' high production values it boils down to the fact that you need to get this game regardless of if you own a ps3 or not. The online isn't as strong as its single player counterpart, mainly to do with the controls not working for an online multiplayer game. However if you treat the online as a third person shooter rather th...

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 0

I've been enjoying my Playstation 3 since I got it, but some people insist MGS4 is the only game possibly worth getting the system for. It is one of the reasons I made the purchasing decision I did, and I'm glad I was finally able to play it.Over the years, the Metal Gear Solid story has grown and twisted itself out of control, and one of the main concerns going into this game was that Hideo Kojima and crew would be unable to wrap everything up in a satisfying way by the time it was over. There ...

An amazing finale to an awesome series 0

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the answer to all the problems you could ever have with an MGS game. The controls have been streamlined and a 3D camera has been implemented. The over the shoulder aiming mechanic improves the game so much and the selection of weapons is truly staggering (maybe there might be too many weapons). The story wraps up any question you could have about the series and provides a satisfiying ending which a lot of entertainment products nowadays cannot seem to emulate. MGS4 is an ex...

Rides the line between genius and fanservice well 0

It just seems like a massive undertaking to write about this game because of all my wildly diverse opinions about it. It’s not cut and dry like most other games or even the other Metal Gears. This one is just fundamentally different in a lot of ways that made it difficult to try to pull it all together in a cohesive review that informs people of my opinion. Even now I’m afraid that this post might be a little scatterbrained, as well. Well, first of all, there’s the thing that I just could not ge...

MGS4 has smashed "the bar" to bits and is now dancing on it. 2

Finishing Metal Gear Solid 4 was an overwhelming experience for me. It's flawless in meshing story and game-play together – something that the series had been superb at doing, but has now perfected. This game should not be passed up. Unless you hate good games of course. Graphics – 10/10: Just because this game looked good in previews YEARS ago, doesn't mean that it's good to today's standards, right? You couldn't be more wrong. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a landmark in visual presentation. There are ...

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a Story Driven Masterpiece 0

This game is a landmark in the industry of gaming it prospers as a true form of art. Everything about is simply amazing. This storied franchise has been through a lot. From its begginning in the nes era. Till now in the seventh generation console era. You knew this was going to be a great game from past experiences with other Metal Gear Solid games. Personally I did not play any Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear games, until the 4th installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The hype surround...

Easily one of the most impressive experiences this generation. 0

As someone who was extremely disappointed with MGS2 and MGS: Portable Ops, I went into MGS4 with some trepidation. I've seen the good reviews of this series before. I've seen the rabid fan adulation before. And I've seen the basic MGS game mechanics before, which were always creative and interesting but ultimately a little clunky and awkward, especially compared to pure action games. As a pre-cursor to playing MGS4, I finally got around to playing MGS3: Subsistence a few weeks prior. I wasn't exp...

This is everything you could ever want from a Metal Gear game ... and then some. Start to finish, it grabs you by the balls and refuses to let go until the credits roll (and even after that it takes you in for some more!).  It became pretty evident during the development that this was the last Solid Snake game and as a result, there was a lot for them to squeeze in and a lot of loose ends for them to tie up, but they were all tied up beautifully even if some  characters' endings were more ambigu...

    Amazing! 1

This has to be one of the greatest games I have ever played in my time. The combination of the beyond words storyline and great game play scores this a 5 for me. Some see the story as a little over the edge, but if you have the time to play this game make sure to watch all the cut scenes. Even if you haven't played the old Metal Gears this one will clue you in on everything that has happened in the past ones and for those of you great metal gear fans all your questions shall be answered. The Good: The plot is easier to follow than past games; Gameplay is actually action oriented; Well crafted cutscenes; Many many easter eggs; Loaded with customizable weapons; Great cast of characters;  Outstanding visuals; Boss fights are fun; Bosses are hot; The PS3 no longer resembles a paperweight! The Bad: Single player can be finished under 5 hours when skipping cutscenes; Multiplayer is present but poorly implemented; Soldiers can see Snake from across a warzone and call in backup; Bosses h...

    REVIEW - Metal Gear Solid 4 0

http://patricknguyen.wordpress.com/2008/06/14/review-metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots/Metal Gear. Two words that make hearts jump. Two words that have become synonymous with ’stealth action’ and ‘cinematic storytelling.’ With its latest installment, it has set a precedent for the latter, no doubt. But what about gameplay? Does it support the weight of one of the grandest narratives in gaming history? First things first, and I feel the need to say this: MGS4 closes every loose end the seri...

Metal Gear Solid 4 is by far the best mgs game to date. Anyone who is a fan of the series will really enjoy playing this game. Metal Gear Solid 4 has up to this point been one of the biggest titles of 2008. This most anticipated sequel in a year of big anticipated sequels has come, and unfortunately, has gone for the most part, and we missed the review train, but for a game as great as Metal Gear Solid 4, it’s never too late to catch the next train. Hit the jump for my review of the game. From the moment you boot up the game disc, to when you first take the reigns of Solid Snake, are just crazy enough. The exper...

    A Fitting End 0

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a magnum opus for one of the boldest game series in history.  Despite the lengthy cutscenes (which I love) the game is as much movie as it is game.  The controls have been refined to a level that makes every aspect of the previous games seem paltry in comparison.   Shooting feels spot on, and the gun customization system allows you to play the game how you want.  In Snake Eater one of my main gripes with the Camo Index system was the constant dropping into the menus to make...

I bought Metal Gear Solid 4 June 19th and ended up finishing it around 4AM (6AM if you count the hours of footage after the final boss) on June 21st. I just could not put it down and was drawn into it. Without checking the stats, I ended up with around 20 hours? of game time. Remember this includes watching the 8+ hours? of just movie footage. Hours of footage could totally be wrong as I just threw this out there, never counted or checked anywhere online. Now I have never played the MGS series b...

An emotional rollercoaster ride of a video game 0

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a game that will split many people. The series way of telling a story has always been strange, but compelling for those that really get into it, and with MGS4 it's no different. MGS4's story is the single most compelling time i've ever had playing a video game. The story had me at every twist & turn and had me in tears at least 4 times. Not everyone is going to have that experience, but I did and any game that can do that to someone deserves high praises. The acting, wr...

Metal Gear Solid 4 Is Amazing 0

Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest, and perhaps final, chapter in director Hideo Kojima's storied series, has been saddled with impossible expectations, tasked with closing out every aspect the labyrinthine mythology of its predecessors. The franchise has become known for two distinct things; a complex story, grounded in contemporary politics and current themes, and open-ended stealth gameplay. Metal Gear Solid 4 pushes each of these to the limit, and despite the lengthy, meandering cutscenes, solo ...

Difficulty: Hard Time Spent: 10 to 20 Hours "All it's cracked up to be" You are the player (Old Snake) and must navigate the game world in order to progress, using stealth and cunning this where where espionage action comes in word in addition to traditional combat. It uses third person view with full camera manipulation, but also allows the freedom to play in first-person mode. Personally the first person is quite pointless as it isn't that accurate unless the opponent is still and even if ...

Tactical Espionage? Felt more like a shotter to me.. 1

I really enjoyed MGS 4, but what I dislike was the whole buying weapons with the whole debrin point system. The past MGS games had you conserving ammo, sneaking around enemies and obtacles. Of course, you can play MGS4 this way, but having the debrin points makes you buy ammo, and weapons. I played MGS4 like the other MGS series, but I found myself buying tranquilizer ammo only because I had the option. I really LOVED MGS4, but I wished there was not Debrin point launder van to sell or buy guns ...

Alright guys, here we go with my review of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.Let me just start off by saying that this is probably one of the best games I have ever played. Amazing 0

This game is amazing. From start to finish. You've probably heard all the hyperbole going around this game, but don't let that or the fact it's on the PS3 scare you away. It's the reason the PS3 exists. Well... maybe not, but very close. The thing about this game is you have to play it for yourself in order to see if you like it or not. No $*!& right? But that statement is most relevant with this game. It's unique in all senses of the word. It starts off the way you've seen, heavy on action ...

There are parts when you play that make you feel like Kojima is a genius, which we kinda already knew. There are some parts that could annoy you, maybe because I was only able to carry 5 Rations and Snake's health was tiny. And there are some bits that drag on for ages and some moments that shock you to no end example "spoiler1", "spoiler2" and "spoiler3".It's been a while since I cleared a game so quickly, 20 hours even after taking my time with it, and I still jumped right back in. I was late finishing this one - finally got to the end after over a month. This is a very good game - the game mechanics are polished, visual effects stunning, enemies smart enough but not 'psychic' when it comes to figuring out where you're hiding. All this makes for a great stealth gaming experience. Then there's the story. Alot has been said about MGS playing by its own rules in terms of storyline crazyness, but to be honest, I don't think I get it. The story, if made into a movie, would be la...

TONS!!!! Most of the game feels like you are walking around trying to find the next cut scene. The controls are not terrible but they are still a little over complicated, that being said the controls are not so poor that you will walk away from the game because of them. Hideo Kojima was quoted about a couple months ago as saying that MGS4 was a disappointment for him. That the game turned out to be 1/10th as good as the one he had envisioned. This had all the gaming websites in an uproar, saying the PS3 was officially dead now, no more hope for Sony, etc. He later said that it was a cultural misunderstanding, that because he is Japanese his modesty was mistaken for disappointment. Metal………………..Gear? 2

Metal Gear Solid 4, allegedly the final Metal Gear game to feature Solid Snake, is a staggering artistic achievement, unique in narrative ambition and cinematic excess. It follows Snake, now an old man due to premature aging brought on by a government conspiracy involving blah blah blah. Actually, while the plot of the Metal Gear Solid series is extremely convoluted, if one pays close enough attention he can fully appreciate the absolute lunacy of everything. And by lunacy I mean completely awes...
