Snake goes 3D in METAL GEAR SOLID 3 for 3DS (2D screens inside).
While I have always wanted some good excuse to play snake eater again, remaking it for a handheld, with almost if not worst graphics seems like a stupid idea. They could remake it using the rising or the mgs4 engine, a metal gear 1 would have been a better choice, a real graphical leap.
It's hard to tell in those screenshots if that is real time phong lighting going on or not (the shiny bits on parts of Big Boss's outfit). Impressive for a handheld if true. It's possible they even have some normal mapping going on there (which is very rare even on Wii)...
This tech demo seems strange because it seems significantly more impressive than the other screenshots & video. Maybe 3DS is more powerful than a Wii except less RAM and no pixel processing units?
It is an upgrade, at least for the character models. Seriously, those character models look much sharper than the PS2 version. They have also changed Big Boss's look to be more like Peace Walker it seems.
" @sewageking said:" @Vito_Raliffe: What do you think? Are the graphics on 3DS as good as the PS2 version? It's been too long since I played this, so I can't really tell. "To be honest, it almost looks like an upgrade. And on that small screen, it's sure gonna look that way. "
Like, The Boss's and Big Boss's hair/facial hair look really good. Almost too good. If it really looks like this, then wow.
Not really. If you look closely you can see where they took shortcuts to bring it to the hand held. The models are more squarish. Its easy to see angles in the Boss/Snake close up grapple. The backgrounds are less detailed and the lack of shadows is obvious... lets not forget the lower resolution and lack of any anti-aliasing.
3DS is probably the best thing I have seen of E3 this year. That lineup they showed was great. RE, MGS, King. Hearts, Saints Row, Mario Kart 3D, DJ Hero 3D, SSF4 3D, Harmonix game, Prof. Layton, Star Fox Remake, Zelda OOT Remake (Not confirmed), Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon, Animal Crossing Super Monkey Ball, Sonic 3DS, and Kid Icarus. 18 games that I am interested in and may get.
" @Milkman said:I'm not sure about that. In the screens, I think they show some stuff that wasn't in the original Snake Eater. I don't remember this, does anyone else?:" So, it's a Snake Eater remake. "Wouldn't even say remake. "Port" is probably more accurate. "
" @SJSchmidt93 said:I only played about 3 hours or MGS3, it was the only MGS I haven't liked. Anyway, if it is a remake, with less crappy shooting, I'll probably play it on the 3DS." @Milkman said:I'm not sure about that. " I'm having a hard time believing those are actual screenshots. It's just shocking me as a DS. "It's not a DS. And they are real time, you can see the videos floating around.
" This will be absolutely horrible, I loved MGS3 on PS2, but on a Nintendo system? Gimme a fucking break, and in 3D too? This will honestly suck. "Being portable, better graphics, and running in more reliable hardware is a bad thing now?
It's sadly going to be definitely a tech demo for either free or sale, it's labeled in Nintendo's 3DS line up as METAL GEAR SOLID:SNAKE EATER THE NAKED SAMPLE.
" I have to wonder whether these will all turn out to be actual games rather than tech demos. They're releasing screenshots of the end of the game right there. "
