@demoskinos: Yeah, I've seen that. It's impressive, but still very obviously CG and there is no animation at all. Your previous point about the catch light in the pupils is probably the best argument I have heard for Joakim being CG. I'm at this point willing to entertain that notion, but I am still very skeptical. However, the fact that you only see his eyes for a few seconds, the lack of hair/face details is extremely suspicious.

It's still possible though that this whole discussion is just part of the PR stunt. Kojima could be the one who first posted on Reddit (or wherever is appeared first) "speculating" that this could be CG, knowing it would spread to GAF and everywhere else. It's all part of the marketing strategy to get people talking, whether it's CG or not. It's clearly working, and I admire the effort.

But then, none of this holds up when compared to any other part of the interview. You can clearly see the lower part of his eyelids move throughout the interview. And the shock is clearly a fake, jokey exaggeration. It's an old gag. The wide-eyed look of surprise after letting something slip, like an old spy comedy.

And as far as the shadowing and light, that's due to studio lighting, which is going to look off if you're expecting natural lighting. He's clearly a real human being with makeup and bandages. It's just them being silly to drum up hype for GDC.

@demoskinos: Y'know what? I'm gonna bow out of this one. I just think this is absurd, and I have no reasoning other than the fact that, to me, that guy is clearly real. One of us is gonna be proven wrong in the end, and I truly hope it's me, cos that would be mind blowing. I do however think that you'll be the one eating his words. ;)

On a side note, if that guy is real, how fucking freaked out must he be right now? People are discussing how computer generated he looks online ffs.

I don't really think he was CG though. I liked the theory that he was really Cliffy B before the actual interview. I have no doubt that Joakim doesn't really exist, but there's no way they could take it that far..

It totally could be CG. Anyone disagreeing hasn't really been following how much face tech has improved in recent years. Take for example Arnold's face from Terminator Salvation. That was 4 years ago. That youtube video is five years old already. Adding the bandages is an extremely easy way to escape the uncanny valley since you can't see the face in its entirety.

HOWEVER, I don't think it is CG because I don't really see the point of doing this. Other than Kojima being nuts... fuck, now I don't know anymore.

Fuck I don't know what to think at this point. Some aspects seem way too real to be CGI yet there are other parts that don't look right. I'm not sure if I'm only seeing the imperfection cause I want to think it's fake, or even vice versa. Either way Kojima is a boss for even getting us to examine this.

All I know is that the dude has the worst "I'm totally from Sweden"-accent.

I don't care whether he's CGI or not. This is all one of the dumbest publicity stunts ever for a franchise that I could care less about. But...everyone else, enjoy your Easter Egg hunt.

Given that one of the main demonstrations of the Fox engine is that half and half face, I'm voting for a CG version of a real actor which is shown occasionally. At the reveal they will probably have him talking 'live' from Sweden, and then he walks on stage and talks to himself, blowing people's minds.

But it'll be bundled with Shivers 3 (Shiv3rs), which will shock everybody back to life, so it'll all sort itself out.

On the other hand, I wouldn't accept a Shivers 3 unless they revive Trip Cyclone as a band, which will destroy reality by simultaneously being the worst and best thing ever.

@mattyftm:I think their theory is that it's so Konami can say, "Look what our engine can do." But I still don't see the point because everything they have shown looks like a PS3 game, and no current stuff could do something like that.

If youge got a new engine you want people to start using and licensing from you then you need a kick ass demo and what better way then throw this on national TV without any explanation and then at GDC reveal the truth. #TeamCG
