It's finally officially announced, along with this photo. There's also a trailer coming soon.

from the article: The trailer opens with what appears to be Snake falling into a coma. Doctors struggle to revive him. But then it switched to show what looked like an old Snake shooting people from a helicopter.

    No Caption Provided

I've played the series since MGS 2, so exited right now.

    EDIT: trailer, courtesy of @49th.

I'm reading comments that sound like David Hayter isn't voicing Snake. Can someone confirm?

The whole Phantom Pain and Moby Dick Studios charade was fun, but I'm really glad that it's finally over and discussions can start about what MGS5 is actually going to be. It's also nice to finally have confirmation that Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are one and the same.

Yeah, that's almost a dealbreaker right there. Didn't David Hayter say something on Twitter a while back about asking fans if they wanted him to voice Snake again? I can't imagine there is a large outcry of people demanding a new voice for Snake.

They should give him a high pitched voice so that in comparison to raiden so he sounds like the prepubescent.

Also I just realized, eventually when they start over with a new clone snake, Raiden will be his C.O. that means Raiden will be the badass one.

I don't think Snake even spoke during the trailer. If people are talking about the part after the credits, that's Robin Atkin Downes, the guy who voices Miller.

Well, they've got to bridge the gap between his Peace Walker voice and his MGS4 voice right? It makes a sort of sense then, to not have Hayter back.

Anyways, can't wait. Day one. Probably in some stupid giant collector's edition box.

I could not be less excited. Metal Gear Solid 4 killed any and all enjoyment I once had for the series.

Now if this was Rising 2 I'd be in.

    Another prequel?

I've only played MGS4 (and understood most of the story, and backstory) and will play MGR soon but I'm not a big fan of prequels to be honest. Kojima's already done it so many times over this franchise that I never had the inclination to play any of the other titles. He seems like the sort of chap who keeps up with current trends in the world. Why go back in time?

I certainly considered MGS3 a prequel at the time when it was released, but at this point there have been so many entries in this Big Boss line of games, that I pretty much consider it a completely separate series alongside the Solid Snake games.

I wonder if Kojima would ever explore the idea of remaking the first two metal gear msx games for the next gen. I know he said Snake's story is done but it would be pretty rad if we could see a retelling of how things went down in Zanzibar and Outer Haven.

    - After watching the trailer the guy with the sunglasses is that Master Miller?

But what's the hook for this one? MGS4 was Old Snake's swan song, MGR was about playing as a cyborg ninja. I wonder what new game mechanics (set in the Cold War) can top the ones used in those two games.

Bleggh, that trailer is so self-serious and up its own ass that it's looping all the way around from dumb to looking good. If I didn't know anything about Metal Gear, then it would look cool. But I do, and it's so tired.

Alright, I just rewatched the gameplay video, and I think both characters are voiced by Kiefer Sutherland. This lends credence to the idea that Ishmael is a figment of Big Boss' imagination.

And of course Zone of the Enders is self serious, but that's a game I actually want to play. Because there is nothing like its gameplay and there hasn't been one in a long, long time. On the other hand, MGS has been done to death.

...... how does the song possibly make it self serious? If it was self serious it would have used something like "Mad World" or some edgy dub step.

And so self serious is only cool for when a game has mechs? Then why even bring it up. Confusing.

Really surprised that they chose a Garbage song for their trailer, not that I'm complaining, Garbage is a fantastic band. Pretty darn great trailer, too. Makes me really excited to see what the final game will be.

I'm hoping that Kojima is getting ready to play us all for fools again and really have Hayter in the game voicing Boss/Snake, whatever. I love the series and have since the MGS1, but it's weird not having David Hayter do the voice. I know most will say it's not a "big" deal, but it just doesn't seem right.

You . . . really seem to want to argue over this. I didn't say "self seriousness" (damn, I'm getting tired of saying that) was cool. Self seriousness was my immediate reaction to the trailer. There were two parts to my post, the second being I'd rather see a new ZoE (despite whatever fucking tone it may have because we can tolerate all kinds of shit to get something that we want more, right?)

If you have anything else on the topic, I'd like to quote Jeff Gerstmann by saying, "tell it to your psychiatrist, freakshow."

I highly doubt that. The guy's in his 70s I think, so unless they've done a lot of modifications to his voice, I wouldn't imagine it's him. Also, goddamnit there was this whole other thread going on about MGSV??

Bleggh, that trailer is so self-serious and up its own ass that it's looping all the way around from dumb to looking good. If I didn't know anything about Metal Gear, then it would look cool. But I do, and it's so tired.

Drop it and make a new Zone of the Enders already.

self serious and up it's own ass? With the garbage song playing through it? How so?

And Zone of Enders isn't self serious? lol okay.

lol, The song was a huge part of making it self-serious.

Confusing.

You . . . really seem to want to argue over this.

If you have anything else on the topic, I'd like to quote Jeff Gerstmann by saying, "tell it to your psychiatrist, freakshow."

    hahahaha tell my psychiatrist, word.

Well the game could have used more mechs, then it would have one more fan. Kojima must be sad.

So, uhhh. It was Ground Zeroes all along, and Ground Zeroes is actually just Metal Gear Solid V? Kojima, you so crazy.

On a related note, I am somewhat excited for this. I should really get a PS3 so I can actually play MGS4 however.

When Big Boss asks Ishmael who he is, Ishmael points to Big Boss.

Oh man. I thought that was just some funky animations but that doesn't make sense cause this is likely a very polished demo and they would have ironed that out if it wasn't intentional.
