A shot from a previous technical demonstration of what's possible with Fox Engine.

As part of a Metal Gear 25th anniversary celebration in Japan, series creator Hideo Kojima finally stopped teasing what's happening with Kojima Production's brand-new Fox Engine.

Hello, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Our friends at 8-4 were attending the event, which was not broadcast on the Internet, and apparently Konami attempted to suppress conversation on Twitter about the reveal.

Good luck?

"Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base," said Mark MacDonald on Twitter. "AMAZING."

"Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac," he continued. "Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow."

Um, sounds awesome? And this is coming from someone who didn't think Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was much to write home about, unless we're only talking about how completely ridiculous it was. This...I like.

Ground Zeroes sounds like they're literally grinding up WWII Japanese Zeroes.

Didn't think it would be a snake adventure cool either way

Is this demo going to be shown publicly anytime soon?

I still need to play MG4, but some of these quotes sound promising. Hope we hear more soon.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

edit: Despite rumors, I have a feeling this won't be as open world as it's being touted.

Revengeance... Ground Zeroes...

I hate what Kojima's doing to the English language.

I love it. Revengeance sounds like a nu-metal guitar riff.

I wish they would make the game based on that tech demo. Looks awesome.

Ground Zeroes is a highly loaded and risky to use phrase. Not sure what to make of it.

I just hope it's something different, and not just dragging Snake out for "one more adventure". Hopefully they'll MGS2-style surprise us.

That's Big Boss and aw shit, bring on the next generation of consoles and may they handle this at 60 fps in 720p!

e: Maybe not; "the demo was on a PC based on PS3/360 hardware specs"

Metal Gear : Splinter Cell?

When does this game take place? Snake and Big Boss and just about everyone but Raiden are dead aren't they?

I hope 'zeroes' is just bad translation or something. A new proper Metal Gear game has me excited though. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if its held off for next gen. If I was Microsoft, I'd swoop that up and save it to be the next Xbox's system seller.

Dafuq? Why is there an embargo on this and not on any of the other stuff? My favorite quote about the movie from the NeoGAF thread: "He finally did it. One long cutscene." -DennisK4

ground zeros? I am predicting it.s remakes of the first two Metal Gears, pre-MGS, post-MGS 3. I could be totally wrong, but how else justify a young snake, other than clones or another Big Boss story, which would be really wedging it into the timeline at this point.

Hmm, considering the insignia / logo on snake's arm, which seems to be Militaire's Sans Frontier logo. There's a high possibility this is about Big Boss' story.

I don't want to play another game with Snake in, regardless of story justification. We need to move on from that dude. MGS4 was a proper sendoff. Leave him alone.

You play as naked snake's cousins friends brother who is actually snakes son but snake doesn't know and his mother is that Lady that was a Russian spy but was really a Chinese spy and this is all shown in the last cutscene which goes for 2 hours and comes out of nowhere.

My guess is that the name "ground zeroes" is going to show us more of the relationship between Big Boss and Zero, maybe we'll even see the beginning of the Les Enfant Terribles program?

Please be on PS4, I really want that huge leap again that I haven't felt in years!

Best news I could hear. It's time to get back to sneaking like a BIG BAWSSS! Also, guys, it's not Solid Snake. It's Big Boss. He's got Cold War era equipment, an eye patch, and an MSF Logo. LIKE A BAWSS!

@GunslingerPanda: Bored of Big Boss? Bored of a guy that we played as in only 1 main game and a few spin-offs, as opposed to someone we've played as in 3 main games?
