Overview
Metro CityMetro City is the fictional setting of many Capcom video games. It first appeared in the side-scrolling brawler, Final Fight. It has been characterized as a massive urban sprawl, plagued with violence, murder, corruption, and decay, perpetrated by the ruthless Mad Gear gang. Former professional wrestler Mike Haggar is the mayor of Metro City.
Appearances
Metro City was first established in the Capcom universe in Final Fight. It remained the main location of Final Fight: Streetwise. A futuristic Metro City was also the main setting of the brawler, Captain Commando. Metro City has been used as a background stage in several fighting games, such as Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Super Street Fighter 4, and Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.
Geography
General layout of Metro CityMetro City is built on an island on the Eastern seaboard of the United States. The shape of the island, its proximity to the mainland, and specific mention of the Atlantic Ocean, suggest that it is intended to resemble the island of Manhattan. Given the dense urban landscape, and the prevalence of violent crime, this is likely meant to suggest a similarity to New York City.
The map in Final Fight mentions several main areas: a slum, the West Side, a central park, the Bay Area, an Industrial Area, Uptown, and the city's subway system. In Final Fight: Streetwise, the city layout is given as four areas: The Hood, the Pier District, Little Italy, and Japantown.
