A 3D procedurally-generated game of world exploration, resource harvesting, and freeform construction, featuring a unique block-based art style and online multiplayer. It received numerous ports and updates for nearly a decade after its initial release.
Just to let you guys know, Notch was inspired by a block building game that was exactly like how minecraft is now, in a way, he stole the idea and added survival elements.
" I'm not sure how the crap video game plagiarism litigation works, to be honest. You'd think the guy in question could just change the block textures significantly and be totally home free. Although notch has enough money at this point where he could just threaten this guy with a nuisance suit and bankrupt him. "
That might work. If this small guy even has to show up at court once and hire a lawyer once that might use up all his money. "
You guys say that as tho it's a good thing. Regardless of this case do you realize how many legitimate small companies have been unjustly crushed by giant companies because of this stupid bullshit?
Saddens me to think people want to crush this guy for no other reason than building a game that's a clone of a game that they like.

Agreed. Like I've said elsewhere, if this 'precious' behaviour was applied across the board, you would have exactly 6 games to choose from each year; Football Manager 24, Wolfenstein 19, Dune 12 (NO Warcraft), Bard's Tale 38, Populous 23 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 29.
Does that sound like a pleasant gaming market? There's no major (or minor, really) game on the market today that doesn't owe a *HUGE* debt to it's precedessors.
" What Descartes did was a good step. You have added much several ways, and especially in taking the colours of thin plates into philosophical consideration. If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants." - Isaac Newton.

That's what i said earlier. I don't understand all of these people saying that it's a rip off of Minecraft, when Minecraft is a rip off of another game.
