Minecraft Adds Beds And More In Latest Update
Artistic merit is judged solely in the eye of the beholder, so to dismiss Justin Bieber as shitty when he clearly brings pleasure to the hundreds of thousands who have bought is records is childish. You & me finding something shitty does not mean it is shitty. It's an interesting question to ask: is there any objective way to evaluate art? And I really don't think there is, we look at such things from our own perspective, & filter what we see & hear through our own prejudices & tastes.
" @jams said:Where did he borrow code from? And the ideas? (Do you play WoW by any chance? Would you go all havoc on me if I said the same thing about Blizzard and WoW?)" @CptBedlam said:Notch "borrowed" ideas and code from others. He just got lucky, that's all. "Justin Bieber got rich too and millions of people listen to his shit. Does it mean it is any good? No. "Justin Bieber is a tool. He IS the game. The people that created him are behind the scenes. Like his parents, managers and record executives etc. Notch was literally just one guy making a game that he wanted to make. People really enjoy the game and he is popular because of it. Justin Bieber was pushed to success. I doubt he had any hardships or difficulty becoming successful. "
Seriously, do you have ANY idea what you are talking about? You do realise that Notch has been doing this cube thing long before there was Infiniminer? I might just point out Wurm Online as an example - though that doesn't feature cubes as per Minecraft it is based on the cube-idea and the large unexplored landscape idea. That started back in 2003.
Procure evidence, good sir, rather than spout nonsense!

Er, I'm usually the guy who'll go through any length to defend Minecraft, but its strength doesn't necessarily lie in its originality. It's true that it's unmatched as far as sandboxes go, but Notch doesn't at all mind listing a bunch of influences that led to Minecraft being what it is.
Originally, it was meant to be something like Dwarf Fortress meets Rollercoaster Tycoon, tile based with isometric perspective. He implemented a function inspired by the "posess" spell in Dungeon Keeper (which is also essentially a block-based mining game if you think about it), but he claims everything he'd made looked terrible from the first person view because of the low resolution graphics, texture filtering and all that.
But, inspired by Infiniminer's aesthetics, he realized he could keep the textures low-res and just ditch the filtering and it'll end up looking great in a retro way. And that's how Minecraft's visuals were born!
But it's a pointless thing to discuss, anyway. Minecraft is getting a ridiculous amount of attention, and if I wasn't so into it, myself, I would probably be a bit peeved about hearing about it over and over again, especially when it's not even a finished product yet. I can totally see that. But that's absolutely no reason to hate on a man who, yes, got extremely lucky and had his life flip completely around because of this game he's making. If someone's wearing themselves out on a game because they played it to death before all the content was even in it, that's not a fault of the game or the developer. it's the players' fault. I, personally, try not to play Minecraft too much because I still want to love it in a year, when it's done (hopefully), and those core mechanics will grow old long before the game's finished if you keep playing it non-stop.
It's like if an author let you read a book while they were working on it, but every time they released an update with a few more pages on it, you had to read it all the way from the start. You'd grow sick of it before the book was halfway done, and there's nothing the author could possibly do about it. You just have to resist reading it until it's done!
About time beds were made! The night was always so boring. Some texture packs I've seen have already upgraded to different color sheets on the bed. Nice haha

So did Blizzard. The only thing that Notch is "lucky" for is making something people like better than anyone else.
