A 3D procedurally-generated game of world exploration, resource harvesting, and freeform construction, featuring a unique block-based art style and online multiplayer. It received numerous ports and updates for nearly a decade after its initial release.
So are we gonna see a total over haul of the graphics? I persoanly enjoy how the game looks now. But maybe he will offer two graphics packages *I really hope so* Or maybe this is just so less stress is on Notch when making new stuff for the game.
Considering the current art style defines the game, that would be a pretty big mistake. You can download texture packs if you want something different.
Oh no! They are going to make the graphics better? Oh wait...that's a good thing. They could keep the "blocky" graphics style, but have awesome graphics built around that idea.
I wouldn't mind it at all, I have tried some texture packs, they are good. However, I wouldn't mind an official graphics overhaul nothing to big but defiantly some improvements!
Its the boy from Ico dude...how can you not know that. "
Apart from hearing people get excited about it occasionally on the few podcasts I listen to, I've never even heard of Ico. Figured it was the girl from portal, though.
@tdk08: That's almost unbelievable. Unless you never paid attention to gaming in the PS2 era or live in a third world country, I can't believe never having "heard of" Ico. That and Shadow of the Colossus were uber-hyped back then, and if I remember correctly they name dropped Ico in SotC ads.
On topic, I dig this guy's art, hopefully it's not going to be wasted on Minecraft. Who wants art in that kind of game? Not me, that's who.
Minecraft has its own style and shouldn't be "modernised". As for skins, Notch did mention in one of his tweets that he liked the idea of including a skin switcher in the game.

I had an Xbox and didn't know anyone who owned a PS2 (even that was way after either of them were released), so there's no real reason I would've known about any PS2 game. Actually didn't know about SotC until it was mentioned on podcasts either. This led me to look at a couple of YouTube videos of it, but that's the extent of what I know about it. I wouldn't have known about a game in particular unless one of my friends told me about it or I saw it at the local flea market (which is the only place I bought games back then).
Oh god. If Minecraft takes on one of these awful overdone "I DID THIS IN PHOTOSHOP WITH MY WACOM TABLET" anime/pop-art styles I'll never play the game again. Really unoriginal art style from this guy.
I think it would be cool with a new style, or at least a few changes. The guy's diversity is amazing and I think he's capable of making it even more beautiful.
If I'm not totally mistaken he should be the LEVEL (Swedish gaming magazine) art director, or just "the art guy", he was awesome there there so he should be awesome here.
The day that he starts blending textures is the day that he looses the point. That being DAMN PIXELS, boxes, get it? that's what the game is made out of, keep it simple, that's the point.
