3 days ago from this writing, the 2player productions team reached (And passed) their goal of securing 150,000 dollars to make a feature length Minecraft documentary. Its an impressive achievement to have gotten that much support in around a month, with over 3000 backers and 2 people who were willing to pledge over 10,000 dollars towards the film.
While I love Minecraft, I really don't feel so hot about this whole concept, Notch is a great dude, but hes just that, a dude, and most of his ideas about the production of minecraft and where he wants to go have been voiced numerous times. To put that much money towards the documentation of a game that isn't even released yet is sorta insane, and I think that theres better outlets for people's money than this. I hear Japan could always use some more support.
But anyways I guess its happening, so whatever your feelings, its coming.

The Minecraft Documentary is happening...
I'm interested, if only to see how they go through their iterative approach to game design. From Notch has talked in the past, it seems that a lot of the ideas that have come out and the community has latched onto seemed almost by accident, as such, it's neat for the developers to react as they do and how they go about it.
watching the trailer documentary thing right now, i'm letting it buff out. pretty interesting i think. i enjoy watching things like these.
it's kind of like a game where you have to find your own fun. one person enjoy just building long tunnels in different places, and other people like to build awesome buildings.
" Now where's the Dwarf Fortress documentary? "It'd just be a man sitting at his computer for 20 hours a day, coding away. Occasionally, he would see headlines extolling the ridiculous amount of money Minecraft roped in. Wiping a single tear from his cheek, he would continue to program without pause.

I like the vid too. I think it's an interesting idea to do a documentary on a game. If people want to donate their money to such a cause I don't blame them or disagree the money could be spent on something "better." Donating to something you value like a Minecraft documentary isn't wrong. The documentary is interesting to those how view "Notch" as a hero of sorts, or even those who just like playing Minecraft. When you think about it a 'documentary' is just that, a way to document history. Nothing is 'better' than others for documentaries, it's just capturing history is all.
