Cool, but, I still like the game better in first person. If it was third person, there really wouldn't be anything to help it stand out from other action adventures.
Yeht he problem isn't with the first person view because thats what I do actually like about the game and makes it feel more real. The problem with Mirror's Edge is the mechanics timing feels off and combat feel stiff and thats what they need to fix in the next games. I want the combat to feel like you're Jason Bourne in first person rather than a doll.
Well it's nice for the people that would want it, but seriously?
The game would just be a basic TR/PoP derivative at that point.
The whole point of the game to me is the immersion of feeling like you are in that body and can do amazing things, and you get experience all of that from her eyes.
The whole "can't see your feet to know when to jump" could have been solved with a well designed audio cue system I would think.
Like a tone that gets higher as you reach the end of a ramp, something along those lines.
"I don't know, but I feel like 3rd person will ruin this game. It takes away the uniqueness of it, the fast paced nature, and the almost realism."Which is why its a console command that can be turned on, and not something that is intended. Since they never even finished the animations in the first place.
Haha wow thats really interesting and insightful to see it like that.
and yeah, the animation is bad a for a reason, there really is no point in making them look good from the outside when the game is intended to be first person, and first person only. There's so many first person games with terrible player animations on the outside...Like Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls (Had to go there too!)
Still that was really interesting, almost ruins the illusion kinda.
its not "unfinished" its the way the game was designed, to only show the view from the first person. if her entire body was fully animated like you expect in 3rd person (especially her torso), the camera that is linked to the head would be bobbing up and down madly everytime you run, among other things. All the animations that are missing are animations that are obviously unnecessary in 1st person view.
arbitrarywater, the 1st person wasn't busted at all. what the fuck are you talking about? nobody really complained about it they mostly praised it for the fact that it worked. the only problem was the gameplay.
This makes Mirror's Edge so unintentionally hilarious. I love how her left leg twitches when she walks.
"Smoooooth animation. I don't understand why anyone would want to play it this way...."I wouldn't want to play that way, but I sure wish there had been an elaborate Replay-mode where you can watch what youve been doing from several perspectives and in any speed you want. It really sucks that there isn't one, especially when you consider that there are third-person animations for everything you can do as seen by the ghosts.
Btw.: Mirror's Edge is awesome. Buy it.
LOL! the animations on the ragdolls and he legs look hilarious. Goes to show how they cut corners by basing it in a first person perspective yet this is common in most FPS games like Half-life 2 where you don't see yourself from 3rd person ever.
This shows how much effort they put into making the first person stuff look good, see? It looks weird in third person, but good in first person, they had to fake alot of the stuff to make it look belivable and good. I listend to a DICE guy explain some stuff about making Mirrors Edge and such, really cool.
Holy Crap that is pretty creepy. The second bit where she's walking up the stairs is creepier than anything in the RE5 demo
That does look kind of weird, but as others have said it allowed them to get the first person view looking good. I've finally started playing this now the PC version is out and I've got my hands on a copy. I for one am very happy with the first-person view and would never want this to be in third-person. It's a great game.
