On the Edge of Good and Bad

    WARNING:
    Spoilers, Bad Language!

I saw the trailers and they were awesome.  I played the Xbox 360 demo and it was awesome.  I played the PlayStation 3 version and it was... good.

    • The levels are designed great.  This is the next evolution in the puzzle solving genre since Portal.
    • The combat (both hand-to-hand and weaponry) is terrible.  Faith dies in 2 hits from enemies.  The enemies block any attack you've used previously, so you have to keep changing your attacks.  Personally, they should've just removed it.
    • The story was pretty generic.  Not really a lot of twists that are too surprising and quite predictable.
    • The 2D cutscenes in between levels are terrible.  They should've kept everything in 3D.
    • Voice acting is great.
    • Music is great.
    • I don't know if it's just the DualShock 3 or the PlayStation 3 version of the game but the buttons are quite unresponsive.  I had to button mash quite a bit for Faith to do a single action (yes, my controller was fully charged and was not too far away from the PlayStation 3).
    • Graphics are great.
    • The button layout is very unique and work perfectly for this game.
    • Even with SIXAXIS support, I find myself pressing the buttons instead of tilting the controller.
    • Enemies shoot Faith without warning, which is very strange.
    • The ending is okay.
    • Disappointed that there is no online multiplayer.  It would be great to race friends online.

Overall, the game would've been great as a puzzle game with no combat involved.  Enemies need to be toned down and more chase/timed levels added.  I haven't enjoyed an EA-related game since... C&C: Red Alert 2!

Faith will be helped by her fellow runners in order to solve the mystery. You are constantly told how many runners there are, so why does game only show us fou...

Late Bird Review: Mirror's Edge 0

Much like the game, this review should be on the short side. The game brings something new to the table: first-person free-running. But is that enough to carry this game into a worthy sequel? Taking a step away from shooting everything that moves in most first person games, Mirror’s Edge plays off the adrenaline you get from running from “the ” When I first heard about this concept I jumped right on board. Running from swarms of enemies as opposed to stopping to shoot is part of the fun. As...
