Mistral is one of the first party members that Kite gets in the .hack//INFECTION subsection of the .hack series. Despite her more childish way of her expressing herself, she is an adult player who is available for large portions of .hack//INFECTION and .hack//MUTATION, but is "offline" and unuseable for the vast majority of .hack//OUTBREAK due to the player having some real life issues. She becomes available at a more normal rate in .hack//QUARANTINE.
In battle, as Mistral is a wavemaster she is more adept at casting magic spells than fighting physically. She is also in a good position to act as a healer, although, like other players, she has few recovery items - just a lot of sp.
