The service launched on January 27, 2001, and charged per minute to stay connected, with additional charges for game-specific features. The adapter came packaged with Mobile Trainer, a Game Boy Color cartridge used to set up the player's connection and account, as well as send e-mails and browse specialized websites. Nintendo and Konami founded a new joint venture, Mobile21, to support the service with new games.

The service was discontinued on December 18, 2002.
