Rumour has it that modern warfare 2 will be sold for 26 quid at Sainsburys. Such a deal can't help me be a little sceptical about the whole thing. However, I just went from not buying MW2 (£45 i've seen around a few places), to being instantly sold on the game.

I'm not sure if any stores are doing midnight events, and I imagine that you'll have to get in quick on tuesday. Anyway, if you don't intend to waste your money on a collecter's edition, then you can the actual game itself for cheaper. I hope people save a bit of money, but still, take this with a grain of salt as you'll only really know on the day whether it is true.

    Source
As you can see, there are a few images and quotes from supposed staff confirming this.

EDIT: Forgot to add, this is for the 360/PS3 versions of the game. I'm sure PC users can already find the game for this price.

Cool shop are selling it for £38 at the moment for PS3/360, and £25 for the PC.

I'm going to trade in COD4, so I'll get it for half-price in GAME. I never trade in games, but that's a deal too good do miss.

This is obviously just a mistake... sainsburys probably buy each copy for 26 pounds and then sell it on a full retail price... im sure the prices just got mixed up by accident.

Got it for £24 inc. VAT and delivery from Cool Shop, so it's possible they'll have it for around that price.  The supermarkets often pull things like this for big launches - if people end up doing their weekly shop whilst they're in there picking up the game then it doesn't matter if they don't make anything on the game sale.

So how would they be getting it early if this was true? Is it a matter of luck if there's one available in different stores?

Tesco sold Fifa 10 for £25 at launch, and MW2 is equally big. It's hopeful but not impossible. It may be sainsburys just trying to undercut everyone this time and get a ton of sales.

Its not uncommon for Supermarkets to sell things for stupidly cheap, the latest harry potter novel was £5 the day of release (hardback) in Morrisons. My little brother got Fifa 10 out of a supermarket at £25 in the week of release. I hope its this price as normal instead of just midnight so I can get it as a christmas present for someome.

Even if it's not as cheap as £26, whatever they charge, it almost certainly won't be close to the £45 it's being sold for everywhere else. Same goes for other supermarkets.

    @Steve_C:
yes they'll do it for £27 but... wait no not dramatic enough BUTTTTTTT... they will only have a max of 20 copies per store after staff have delved into them so unless you're currently camping in a checkout right now you have no chance... ever thought about going to a shop that offers a reduced price to people who pre-order and accept trade-ins?

oh also by the way apparently tesco will be doing it for £9.99 the catch being you have to buy one of their top 10 games priced at £39.99 the second little catch to the story is they're going to re-organise their top 10 to be utterly appaling games which have been out for 18 months plus and are probably only worth £10-£15...  supermarkets always do this with big releases but ultimateley 95% of people usually end up disapointed after they have sold out instantly.

Yeah my mate got it for that. Damn, if I hadn't sold £36 worth of games today for credit at Gamestation I would be all over this. Assuming this is true that is.

Well that's what this thread is here for. What's interesting to note is this quote:
"She added that the £26 price tag was not a limited offer."

So I guess I might not have to worry if I find that it's sold out. Still nice to have it day 1 though.

If it is this price then I might actually get the game. I wasn't going to buy the PC version because I don't like the changes they've made to it but £26 is a great offer for a 360 game.

It's on Amazon.co.uk right now for £32 with free delivery, which is also a pretty sweet deal (42% off RRP) and from a trusted retailer. Of course, that lacks the immediacy of nipping down to Sainsbury's.
