Wow - you know something's going to sell well when schools expect an increase of absentees on the day it comes out! 
 
In school today we were warned that any absences tomorrow (10th) and this week as a whole will be deeply scrutinised and those absent will have to explain themselves personally to senior staff. Clearly some teachers caught wind that this "call of duty game thing" is coming out and people kinda care more about it than school. 
  
Has anybody else expected this sort of thing at their schools, dare I say places of work. This, I should say, is in the UK.

Ive got a college class Tuesday morning. We're planning on sleeping as much as possible Monday, heading to GameStop at midnight, playing all night, and heading to class Tuesday morning without getting a full nights sleep. Should be fun.

If I were in school right now, between this and swine flu, I'd most certainly be having a day off, and I don't even intend to get the game on the day it comes out.

Quite a few of my friends (including me) are gonna skip a few days of college for this. Off to sainsburys tonight! £26 BITCHESSSS

I have Veteran's Day off, so Wednesday will be MW2 day for me.

Over here (Bulgaria, Europe) we have a national epidemic of the flu. School's out all week.

I find it stupid to drop school/work for a game. It's just a freakin' game! No matter how good it is. People should care more about the more important stuff.

Say you were fucking playing COD, I never took shit from teachers you shouldn't have to go if you don't want to, I know I'm sounding like an asshole but I was never an asshole straight up to teachers I always used my manners but one thing I didn't do was take shit from the school or school board.

Stay in school kids, otherwise you'll become homeless and penniless.

Luckily I only have a 1hour class on Tuesday and then all of Wednesday off for veterans day which I will spend honoring veterans with a game about soldiers.  The entire day, just honoring veterans.

They aint gona do shit. 

I have the 11th off from school, so I doubt many people will ditch on Tuesday.  Also a store in my area broke the street date for MW2 so a couple of my friends got the game as early as Friday.  Sadly, I ordered the game from Amazon about a month ago and I'm not expecting it to get here until the 16th.

What are they going to do?  It's not like they're hiring you.  If you choose not to go for a day and allow homework to pile up, that's your choice.

I was considering skipping, but my amazon copy will probably not get here till later. 
 
Ironically, I've been getting stomach aches and coughing all day.

I actually don't go to school cuz I'm tryin to get enrolled in a community college to do my highschool courses. It's been bout  3 years in February since I've been to a public school. (Go ahead make fun of me. I don't care.) But, not to tell you guys my whole school story but yeh. Basically, I haven't been in a school a while so I have had the time to kick back and enjoy my teenage years so far. But, answer to your question, I am going to be playing this tonight and I'm also picking up Raging Blast as well. Plus, Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 next week. And one more thing, getting Smackdown! 2010 in from Gamefly tomorrow (since I could not finish it). So... yeh. I got a lot of shit to keep me busy. ^_^

While missing school should never be encouraged (even for you lazy college folk -- it shouldn't  matter that professors don't keep attendance anymore), if you get lost in your course curriculum after missing one or two days of class, you are doing something wrong.

Just be glad you have the damn game, I have to wait another two weeks.

I am taking two vacation days from work, but i can't miss my college classes this week. :|

I've got class tomorrow from 9:30-1:45.  I plan on picking Modern Warfare 2 up (if I can find it somewhere, as I do not have a preorder) play it all night since there is no school the next day.

I'll be to focused on thinking "when is this class over it needs to be over soon i hope modern warfare 2 is at my house when i get home" at 100 miles an hour to learn anything anyways.

i wish. long day at uni tmrw :(. wednesday it begins though! (hopefully)

I'm in grade 12 so i have a free class at the end of tommorow, and video class 3rd block(4 blocks)  so ima going to Future Shop at lunch with a few friends,getting the game,then going home to play it.

I have Wednesday off so im going to come home tuesday and hope to god fedEX and amazon worked together to get MW2 to my house that day and play it nonstop till thursday. I dont need to miss a day of school :D

I got luck I got a call from the doctor and i have an appointment at 2:15 and I'm a substitute Monday thru Wednesday so since you can't really have a sub for a sub I'm off work tomorrow sweet.

I am sure there will be many "I got this cough, can't come today" calls tomorrow.

Teachers found out because teachers are people too, and as crazy as this may seem --- some may enjoy video games as much as you and I.  Matter fact, I remember a teacher posting here on these boards once asking if it was a good idea to accept friend requests from students.  
 
Besides, there's nothing they can do if you skip and provide an excuse. A missed day is a missed day, regardless of whether you were sick or your grandma died or you played a video game. Neither one holds any more weight then the other. 

I know for a fact one of my teachers will be absent tomorrow playing this - and he teaches 2 of my 3 classes. Score!

I can see a lot of school kids skipping to play the game. Actually, I have a 3 hour university class tomorrow morning and I wouldn't even be that surprised if some students skipped that, I know there are quite a few people planning to go for a huge, ridiculous MW2 binge.

My dad is going to get it while i am at school.

Well i just purchased a new 360 ( 2 others are totally fucked beyond repair ) picking up modern warfare 2 tomorrow :D
 
Not staying home, can't afford to miss classes. I also played a few hours of it, so i am not that pumped to play it.

not getting it till christmas so meh skipping more important things just to play a game is dumb imo
