There is no co-op in the story campaign, but I would put money on the special forces mode having co-op. And you don't need co-op to be story driven because of the way you play games when you're with mates. So it's really a non-issue.

Because Co-op is a starting trend, it brings people together and personally Co-op games are a heck of a lot more fun to play. Besides that, Cod:WaW had co-op (Although, when it was splitscreen it would leave a 3rd of the screen unused which was weird) So if they don't have Co-op it would be like downgrading the game (Yes, I know two different developers, but still.....)

Why not discuss it in the thread the guy actually revealed the info in? And why not read it properly and see there is a dedicated co-op mode, it just happens to be separate from the main storyline?

Infinity Ward doesn't put things in their game just so it's another thing on the box. They're smart and if they feel it doesn't add anything to the story they won't. Personaly I don't want co-op in MW2. MW1 was a very single-player campaign. Imagian the part where the nuke goes off.. it was incredible the first time that happened. I was crawling around knowing it was the last moments in my life. That was incredibly powerful and almost brought me to tears. No other game has been that powerfull on me. Imagian doing that again with some dude going "OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH WORD WE JUST GOT NUKED WTF LOL".

    No thanks.

yeah that part was great but...imagine if it had been coop...nuke goes off and your crawling and you see your buddy crawling coughing up blood and you go over to him trying to bring him back patch him up knowing you your self are pretty much damned and you fall beside him in that last breath.

Just because one kid has a piercing doesn't mean you need one too. See what I'm saying?

COD4 worked fine without co-op. MW2 will work just as fine in the single player storymode without it.

no coop would still make a great FPS. coop does have a history of interfering with story immersion and completely changes the perspective of any game. For example, its hard to concentrated on holding back a counter attack while your buddy is still tea-bagging the no longer captured informative.

I played the shit out of COD4 without co-op...who cares if you can't play the 8 hour single player with a friend? The real bread and butter for this game will be multiplayer, just like the last one.

I agree that a single player campaign can be much more immersive, but I would love to see co-op in the new Modern Warfare.  At least include online split screen.  When I have friends over we can't play COD4 online, we have to resort to Halo or Gears.... bummer

Oh Dear, games don't NEED co-op at all. Especially not such a well crafted single-player focused game as Call of Duty.  Did anybody really play through CoD4 and think that it would actually be improved by co-op?  The co-op in WaW was so tacked on

God.. why do people go crazy about this? Not like the CO-OP in World at War was even very good and it wasn't made my IFW. IFW knows what they are doing. They didn't put COOP in COD4 for a reason, its easier to tell a better story I think.

Its like multiplayer, everyone thinks every game needs online multiplayer. Now everything thinks every game needs co-op. I don't get it. Every game really doesn't.

The best moments in COD4 would have been ruined by co-op, I'm glad at least one dev realizes that co-op can screw with pacing and tension. This is why games like Uncharted 2 are going with a separate co-op campaign, IW probably doesn't have the luxury of doing sp, co-op, and multiplayer in two years without gimping one of them.
The post nuclear blast scene would lose it's impact if you were crawling around with your friend and calling it "gay".

I am happy that the Story Campaign is not co-op. Although it is great fun playing with friends, in my opinion it really takes away from the whole experience. They have done the right thing, and I can't wait for Special Forces mode either.

SF does have co-op , they've already said it. Cod games(from IW I'm talking about btw, not treyarch) have always felt very personal in the single player experience that it only felt normal that one person was there....I have no problem not having co-op in the main campaign.

considering how shitty FPS's are to play on a controller, it'd probably be good if there was a Co-op option for the console versions of the game; console players need all the help they can get.

leave it out of the PC version though

I'll live without the co-op, but it would have been nice. But I wouldn't want a crappy co-op anyway, I'm glad they kept it out if they couldn't find a good way to work it in. CoD4 had a good narrative, and I wouldn't want them to jeopardize that by shoehorning in co-op or making the story bad or boring by adding it in.

there is co-op, just not in the SINGLE PLAYER mode! der. they made co-op levels using the arcade mode and specific side missions that were non-story related, thats awesome. it will be lots of fun. i remember trying to get a high score on the last level of cod4 with my friend we had to keep passing the controller back and forth.

The one thing Infinity Ward knows how to do is how to make a great fucking game, from the campaign to the multiplayer. Treyarch is a leech, sucking of the hard work and determination of the fine people at Infinity Ward. Infinity Ward is trying to please the Acne Prone Halo Generation by putting in the Special Forces mode which is fucking great and leaves an opening for DLC, perhaps a fully fleshed out episodic co-op campaign. If you don't like the fact that there is no co-op campaign just don't fucking buy it and continue to play that piece of shit game when Modern Warfare 2 is released later this year.

    Modern Warfare 2 has co-op.

But don't count on cooperative play during Modern Warfare 2's story mode. That multiplayer option looks to be limited to the game's "Special Forces" mode, which is described by Infinity Ward president Jason West as "in the spirit of [the] Mile High Club" mission from Call of Duty 4.

See. It has co-op. Just not story mode co-op. Which is fine.

I have never played CoD co op because it's not the point it  does not need co op it just needs good multiplayer with no shitty WW2 guns
