Darkness is used in games to restrict access, increase tension, or just to set a mood. Often the player has access to a light source that can mitigate its effect.
In some video games, when some characters talk, what they say has absolutely no meaning, at least to the player. Whether it has any meaning to the character speaking is another matter entirely.
Illusion magic excels in trickery and deception.
An imaginary boundary in the game world that limits player movement to a specific area. They are often criticized as a poor component of level design, when an actual wall or other visible boundary could have been used to delineate a game's playing field.
The existence of a parallel world which can be traveled to and from, and may contain differences of varying degrees from its counterpart. Often, this concept consists of a Dark and Light World through which the player alternates.
The ability to move from one area to another instantaneously - typically through some sort of special power or device.
