    Overview

Mr. Blobby is a children's TV show character, who first appeared on the series Noel's House Party starring Noel Edmonds. Since then, he has become a recognizable children's character - mostly for being annoying.

Mr. Blobby is characterized as a bulbous pink creature with yellow dots, wearing a collar and bow tie. He speaks in an electronically-altered voice, using only gibberish and occasionally speaking his own name.

As a result of the character's weird rise to fame, he has gone on to have his own music video, PC game and even briefly had his own theme park. The popularity of Mr. Blobby eventually died down by the early 2000s, but the character still remains a vital part of British pop culture.

    History

Noel's House Party was a BBC Saturday night series which had many segments. One segment included was "Gotcha", where celebrities were caught out in a filmed prank.

The character of Mr. Blobby was introduced in 1992 as a fictional children's character which was mostly used to trick celebrity guests into believing that he was real. While celebrities were primed to perform a number of challenges, Mr. Blobby would attempt to frustrate them.

    Theme Park

In 1994, Noel Edmonds officially announced the opening of Crinkley Bottom, a park based on the setting of Noel's House Party. The park initially started as a wildlife park before it eventually progressed into a children's park featuring characters from TV shows such as Noddy's Adventures in Toyland and the Magic Roundabout. One of the park's most famous attractions was Mr. Blobby's house which was called "Dunblobbin".

The park was eventually shut down in 1997 as it failed to meet expectations, and the park also faced allegations of animal abuse. Many of the park's attractions, including Dunblobbin, were kept abandoned and used by drug addicts and ravers until they were eventually demolished in 2014.

    Legacy

Mr. Blobby gained a moderate resurgence in popularity beginning in the late 2000s to early 2010s. He currently has a website and Youtube channel.

    Trivia

    • During a child's birthday party, Mr. Blobby was attacked by the father after throwing a cake on the floor. Newspapers would later call the father a hero.
