Muradin was a childhood friend of Arthas Menethil. In Arthas' quest to save his people, Arthas was willing to pay any price for the power. This power came in the Runeblade Frostmourne, and the price was Muradin's life. It's later revealed in Wrath of the Lich King that Muradin lived.

Arthas Menethil was once the prince of Lordaeron and a mighty paladin. Despite his promising beginnings he took up the cursed runeblade Frostmourne and became a Death Knight. Later he merged with Ner'zhul to become the Lich King.
