It was announced at the Tokyo Game Show that two of the most beautiful games of the last two generations will be getting the upscale treatment to HD. Both games were released by Vanillaware on the weakest consoles of their time. Their hand-drawn 2D art is a wonder to behold in motion.
Odin Sphere was released for the PS2 in 2007 and was considered one of the best RPGs on the PS2.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade was released for the Wii in 2009 and is considered one of the best games overall on the platform (this guy considers it number one). The visuals were originally rendered in HD, making the conversion easy for the developers.
Muramasa is among my favorite games of the generation, and it makes me happy to see it will be released to a larger audience, and that its visuals will get the best treatment available. i will however be holding on to my physical copies of both games, even if I pick them up again.
Platforms haven't been named yet, but really, what do you expect?
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Apr 09, 2009
A 2D action game from the creators of Odin Sphere, featuring a hand-drawn, watercolor Japanese art style. Originally released on the Wii, it has since received an enhanced port for the PS Vita.
Muramasa, Odin Sphere making jump to HD
Fuck... Erm, it's a good thing but I doubt I'd buy them again at a high price on the new consoles.
I totally 100%ed Muramasa getting all the swords and endings and am near finished with Odin Sphere on my PS3.
Which by the way, with PS2 smoothing looks much better than on the PS2 hardware. And surprisingly plays better without the long loads and bad frame rate problems that it had when played on the old console.
But for whoever didn't play these games, this is good news.
I'd buy those up in an instant. Glad I didn't cave and purchase a Wii for Muramasa. Learned a lesson the easy way, for once.
IGN is where I got the news. Theres a link to the original source (1up) on the other side of that link" Wanted OS forever. Can you give us a source buddy? "

" I want. I want!!! Any word on the distribution method an systems they'll show up on? "Download only. Which kind of bums me out, because I always like physical copies myself, but at least they are getting them out to the masses.
Didn't buy either of those games so this might be good for me, provided I had the time to play them.
Does "HD treatment" mean ugly superSAL filters or was it a case where the original art assets were HD and had to be compressed like crazy?Hard to say. We haven't heard anything for the better part of a year. TGS is probably the next best bet, assuming they haven't been canceled.
