Collection of classic sweetness.
Namco Museum Virtual Arcade boasts a hoarde of new and old games. It has anything from a few months old Xbox Live Arcade release to a classic 80’s Arcade game. Not only does the collection come loaded with 34 games, it comes with a budget price. At $29.99, that’s less than $1 per game.
If you haven’t heard of Dig Dug, Pac Man or Galaga before then you’re on the wrong website. If you have never really played any of them before, then this is the perfect starting point. The games in the ‘Museum’ portion of the game are perfectly emulated and still hold up well today. The games in the ‘Arcade’ section are the same as their respective Xbox Live Arcade releases. Yes, you even have to access them from the Xbox Live Arcade menu.
Liked:
Variety: Never before have I seen so many different types of games packed into one disc. Racing games, shoot-em ups and even platformers make an appearance.
Value: $30 for 34 games, some of which are already on Xbox Live Arcade for $10 alone.
Rarities: Some of these games have rarely been rereleased. ie. Galaxian is the underrated father of Galaga, yet is rarely seen.
Status: I like that my friends can see what game on the collection I’m playing at the current moment.
Pac Man: There are so many variations of Pac Man on this collection, I don’t know where to start. Super Pac Man and Pac Man Arrangement are personal recommendations though.
Full Live Arcade Title Benefits: That means, if that particular arcade release has it, so does the version on this disc. This includes online play, achievements, leaderboards etc. It’s all here.
Disliked:
Lack of Achievements: The ‘Museum’ part of the game seems to be somewhat forgotten. There are no achievements for that section at all, which is disappointing to say the least. They really could have been creative with it too.
Separation: The game feels a bit seperate. You have to use the Live Arcade menu to access the Live Arcade games, and you have to launch the disc to play the Museum games. Just a bit awkward.
A few turds: SkyKid and SkyKid Deluxe suck pretty bad. Dragon Buster does too
