Naotaka Hayashi is a Japanese scenario writer and key animator. He was initially a key animator for various anime, including .hack//SIGN, Aquarion, Sonic X, and other shows. He later began writing his own scripts for video games in the visual novel, adventure and role-playing genres.

His earliest known credits as a writer is for KID's Infinity visual novels Remember 11: The Age of Infinity and 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral, alongside Kotaro Uchikoshi, writer of the Infinity and Zero Escape series. One month later, 5pb and Nitroplus released his own visual novel, Chaos;Head, the first entry in the Science Adventure series.

The following year, he released the second entry in the Science Adventure series, Steins;Gate, which went on to become his most famous visual novel and has inspired its own Steins;Gate sub-series, earning considerable acclaim as both a visual novel and an anime adaptation.

His work on Steins;Gate prompted Square Enix to invite him to work on their role-playing game Bravely Default as the scenario writer. Bravely Default has also earned considerable acclaim as one of Square Enix's best role-playing games in years. At the same time, he also wrote the third Science Adventure visual novel, Robotics;Notes.

Hayashi is currently working on a spin-off to the original Steins;Gate, called Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram. He is writing the script alongside Kotaro Uchikoshi, another acclaimed visual novel writer he had previously worked with on Remember 11 and 12Riven.
