    Decent anime fighter

Let's face it, most anime fighting games are unparalleled rubbish. The Naruto games, however, more or less are of an at least playable quality. Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 is no exception.

The Clash of Ninja (on Nintendo consoles) and Ultimate Ninja (on Sony - and now Microsoft - consoles) series have always been different beasts entirely, the UN series has splintered into many different subcategories, whereas Clash of Ninja has pretty much stayed straight and narrow. This is a double-edged sword, as although this means that it is familiar to longtime fans of the series, it also hasn't evolved much.

The important thing to note is that the CoNR games are completely different than their Japanese counterparts in terms of character roster, plot, and some gameplay elements.

Gameplay aside, CoNR2 avoids the trappings of most other anime fighters and delivers an original story with a host of all-new characters created specifically for this entry. Since most games based on anime/manga that are not crossovers, tend to rehash the same story over and over again, this is very much a welcome change. The new characters are also cool and fit into the universe quite well. I honestly wish that most anime fighters, especially long-running ones, were able to do this, since I've grown sick of seeing the same thing year after year.

I've always been a fan of character-specific tag/team moves, and Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 has quite a few neat ones. Apparently some of the Japanese Gamecube ones had triple-team moves, which I would have loved to have seen here, but what we do have is pretty nice. I only wish there were more of them, since there are several teams that anyone who follows the series would expect to result in a unique move, only to get the generic version.

Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 also avoids the same standard anime fighter downfall of having an upgraded version released the following year as a sequel, thus making this one obsolete, by being the final game on the Wii to have the classic Naruto characters as opposed to Shippuden.

If you're a fan of Naruto and/or anime fighters that don't outright suck, CoNR2 might be what you're looking for.
