Hot Pursuit Race Night: The Big Showdown (Sundays, 9:00 PM ET)
All right, quick heads-up, everyone. Two hour warning! We're under two hours away from some more cops-versus-criminals action. I hope you're ready.
There's not much I can add, given the nature of Hot Pursuit, but I do think we're all getting up in levels enough that we might be able to get away with trying more hyper class warfare. We'll see! Oh, and I imagine the Crown Vic swarm will rear its head at some point.
9:00 PM EST. I'll see you then for Hot Pursuit Race Night. Let The Big Showdown commence once more!
Well, last night was exciting! I think we had a lot of fun expanding on the Crown Vic Swarm idea.
- Another strong showing last night with a full lobby for the majority of the time. Thanks to everyone who attended! Good luck, have BOOOOST!
- Hot Pursuit mode is much more entertaining if you think of a really petty reason to be chasing the racers down, like forgetting to pay a water bill, or walking out on a Red Lobster bill. Nobody rides the cheddar biscuit train for free!
- If you haven't done the Interceptor races yet for their achievements, you might consider getting that out of the way at some point. That mode feels like a holdover from Need for Speed 3: It's fun, but kind of janky at the same time. Shaggy and I can attest to that, as we annoyed the piss out of each other after the main part of The Big Showdown last night.
- The best part of last night: Crown Vic Swarm! Here's the house rules: Unbalance the teams so there's 6-7 cops and 1-2 racers, and make the cops all choose the same car. In the sport class, the Crown Vic's a must, and the Bentley Supersport's a must in its class. The E7 was a bit overpowered in its class, so the Challenger might be a better option there. Anyways, choose a nice wide-open track like Highway Battle or Ocean Blue. Once you get rolling, the cops have to forgo using any of their weapons, though the racers can use anything in their arsenal. Racers try to survive as long as possible. It's great fun, and great bounty for the cops!
- Seriously, the above idea's so much fun, but as a racer, you have to accept that you're going to fail horribly, and enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Most of my pictures didn't turn out, sadly. Here's the few that survived!
Good stuff, and again, thanks to everyone for joining us. I hope to see a bunch of you back next week for another session of The Big Showdown!
Another great night of action, thanx for putting this together!!!!
And this
"Oh, so close! The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit launch trailer didn’t quite make it to one million views, but our community still turned out an amazing performance. We'd like to thank you all for sharing the trailer with your friends and making sure that everybody knows that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is the best, most intense (and VGA-winning!) racing game of the year. So, as an early holiday gift, we’ve decided to give the three convertibles for free to everyone playing Hot Pursuit. Look for them in an upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title update (we'll be sharing more PC news when it becomes available). "
Wow last Sunday's race night was great fun and im really looking forward to what other crazy ideas we could come up with next week. Crown Vics are becoming one of my favorite cars in the game for good reason.
Hmm... you know what this race night is missing? A strong PS3 division...
*Holds up his shiny new copy of Hot Pursuit*
OH WHAT DO WE HAVE HERES!? I think it's time for the PS3 community to recognize MY PEEPS!
" @Magicallystoopid: You give meaning to your name I see. :P "YEAH WHATEVER, WHEN WE WERE IN FORZA I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER DRIVING CIRCLES AROUND YOU SON!
Wow. The Crown Vic Swarm idea sounds like a blast.
This Sunday, if y'all have room for one more, I think I can make it (finally!).
" @Magicallystoopid said:Yeah the very vivid memory of me planting my foot in your ass really does help me sleep like a baby. :p" @ShaggyChu said:Riiiight, sure yah did. What ever helps you sleep at night. "" @Magicallystoopid: You give meaning to your name I see. :P "YEAH WHATEVER, WHEN WE WERE IN FORZA I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER DRIVING CIRCLES AROUND YOU SON! "
What's that world? You want a PS3 Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Race Night?
WELL IN ABOUT ONE HOUR'S TIME, YOUR ABOUT TO GET IT!
Consider this one and all your official one hour warning to the beginning of not only the PS3's first Race Night, but the regular Xbox 360's as well.
Come one, come all, and let's find really stupid things to do with cars that are too expensive for this level of stupidity... together.
There's a version 1.1 update for NFS: Hot Pursuit in the add-on store, much like what Criterion did with the Burnout Paradise updates. To play with us, you'll need to grab that.
You might be prompted automatically, but several of us weren't, so user beware.
That was a pretty fun, short session. I'd have joined in sooner if I knew this was going on. :)
Also, I only lost because my mom was asking to play Fruit Ninja on my iPod. I'd have won, you all know it. :P
Wellp, slow night tonight during Race Night, but a lot of fun overall. Let's put a few notes down here.
- Interesting night overall. Before Race Night began, Diablochicken, Falcon, and I had a chance to play some Hot Pursuit with Jeff, Ryan, and Gary Whitta. They're all tremendously skilled fellows, and Whitta is scary as a cop. I doubt Jeff, Ryan, Gary, or anyone else that took part in that Justin.TV will read this (or care), but you are all more than welcome to join us any week. We're a bit chatty at times, but I think you'd have a good amount of fun, even in our horribly unbalanced "challenges" with cars like the Crown Vic or Bentley.
- Once Race Night started, we didn't have the best of turnouts this week, with only Diablo, Keval, and Hay4z showing up, but hey, 2-on-2's nice at times.
- I have never had to reverse away from a cop and perform a J-turn before. That was a scary experience! Trying to dodge EMP blasts puts you in bad situations sometimes, especially with autobust risks.
- With the new 1.1 patch, getting close behind another car doesn't ensure you miss their spike strips. This makes charging opponents more dangerous than ever.
- As we get more and more experienced with weapons, it's getting harder to dodge EMPs. People are figuring out better way to set those up and keep them locked on through handbrake turns.
- Zonda Force is awesome.
- Alternate shortcuts aren't always beneficial (especially during races!), nor are they always good at dodging EMPs, but with the right timing, they can be vicious spike strip traps.
- Next Tuesday, the Super Sport DLC pack comes out. I don't know if anyone's considering picking it up, but I imagine a few of us will want to try running the Gumpert Apollo in hyper class. Also, the new Porsche GT2 cop car has a beautiful paint job. So serious.
Thanks to everyone who joined us tonight. Here's the one decent picture I managed to grab tonight:
Hope to see a bunch of you next week around the same time!
Whoa ho ho... PsEG, two can play at this game!
- Slow turnout this week, with only four people showing up and one having a headset, it was fun, and a surprising number considering the short notice. I think though with the advertising though next week should be good.
- I get that it's a game and that I shouldn't think about these sort've things... but why the hell is Seacrest Police using Porsche Cayenne SUVs for their road block units? The things go for like 100,000. Seacrest County... where the police will spend your tax dollars poorly!
- Another thing the Seacrest police does... hire handicapped people for their speed control unit. If our Crown Vic Swarm sessions are any indictation.
- I'm not kidding, in the three we did only once did the racer get busted, meanwhile we're all busy slamming our cop cars into things like it's a God damn bumper car track at the county fair.
- "Sargent... are we the worst cops ever?" "Yes we are Jimmy... yes we are."
- I cannot stress this enough people, while I won't run into your home and threaten your loved ones for not wearing a bluetooth headset into Race Night. It's still a fact that by not having one your missing out on half of what makes Race Night the legendary experience it is.
I just got my PS3 so that's why I don't have a headset yet.
Yeah, it was funny that the only time we busted someone was when they stopped deliberately and we surrounded them (by accident). I liked the Crown Vic, no weapons thing though.
God I can't wait to get this. If I don't open it up this Saturday morning I'm gonna be mighty upset! Looking forward to crashing with you guys.
Another great race night last Sunday guys and gals. Even though there wasn't a big turnout the four of us still managed to have some good 2v2 action. I think this is just a testament to how good of a game Criterion has made. Also, as PsEG said, a few of us did get to play with Jeff, Ryan, and Gary in a little impromptu session. Twitter is good for something apparently! Anyway playing with them was a blast and made for some intense as hell games. Probably the best thing for me was when Gary tried to EMP me and I pulled the e-brake to get the drop on him and win the race! So lets end this little bannerless post with some pics!
See you all next week!
Also, never trust the rocks.
Yeah I'm considering a Race Night tomorrow night, I've got the bluetooth headset charging as we speak.
I got the game for Xmas today on 360. My gamertag is iTz LuchaDeer. Looking forward to smashing it up tomorrow night!
" I got the game for Xmas today on 360. My gamertag is iTz LuchaDeer. Looking forward to smashing it up tomorrow night! "I think there's a 360 thread. I also got this for Christmas (and a PS3! Woot!) so I'll get it set up tonight and then post again with my PSN tag. Sounds like fun.
All right everyone, consider this your two hour warning. In a little under two hours, at 9:00 PM EST, we'll start up some more cop-on-crook chases and have some fun. Great time to join up if you want in! Laz PsEG on Xbox LIVE or haikufrenzy on PSN are the people you'll want to become friends with.
Do keep in mind that there is an update for Hot Pursuit, so if you haven't downloaded the 1.1 update, you should get it before we get going. There's also that Super Sports DLC pack, but I don't know how we'll integrate it into the action. Purchase it only if you want it, since I don't intend to make it a requirement. However, I do wish to run people over with a Gumpert Apollo.
Oh, and for PS3 owners, there's a new edit to the first post on how to hook a bluetooth headset up to your PS3 so you can talk while locking EMP charges on one another, or whatever else trips your fancy. Voice chat makes this stuff more entertaining, as far as I'm concerned, though it's not a requirement.
That said, a little over 90 minutes now. 9:00 PM EST. The Big Showdown. CATCH IT.
And the 360 night finished up not too long ago. Good stuff, as always. Let's recap.
- Not an overflowing lobby this week, but the holiday craziness will slow down over the next few weeks for us. Thanks to natetodamax for joining us as a new guy -- hope you enjoyed yourself.
- It occurs to me that EMPs are just plain fucking evil if you pick the right distance or location. I managed to lock onto quite a few people in areas where they had no place to turn. By the same token, letting a cop fly past you, keeping your distance, and warming up an EMP? Also evil, even if it doesn't always hit.
- The Super Sport pack's kind of nifty. The Gumpert Apollo is the first car I've managed to spin out multiple times drifting through corners. The new Veyron's pretty neat, though, and all the cop paintjobs are just ungodly pretty.
- In fact, let's just establish it here: Criterion's put together some of the nicest-looking paintjobs for cop cars, period.
- In slower classes, there was a lot of u-turning today. Some of it was actually effective!
- Spike strips continue to be vicious as ever. Trying to attack from angles is sometimes successful, but usually kind of risky and difficult to set up.
- Driving a black Gumpert Apollo at night with the headlights off is pretty intense. I love no-headlight driving, even if I am bouncing off walls sometimes.
- 4-on-1 Vic Swarm rules Hot Pursuits are almost balanced, if the racer manages to pull away. 4-on-1 Continentals are even more so. Also, Ocean Blue's looking better than Highway Battle for these kind of matches.
- Finally, please to have some screenshots:
Thanks to everyone who attended, and I hope to see you all next week for more cop and racer aggression!
- Very slow turn out with only two other people showing up, still fun, but man... I could've sworn people wanted to do this.
- The police activity went a lot better then last time, since in this Vic Crown Swarm session only once did someone escape... yours truly. I am the man.
- I have unleashed upon the Seacrest police department it's greatest weapon. Officer Creeper. "Licensssssssse and regisssssssssteration pleasssssse."
- Honestly next week I giving this a few more weeks, if the numbers for the race night don't improve, I might go ahead and have the PS3 race night ride unsafely into the sunset.
Sorry, I couldn't make it this week. But yeah, unless we have at least 6 ppl regularly it's probably not worth continuing it.
Is there any way of letting random people fill up the rest of the lobby?
All right, everyone. One hour and forty-five minutes until we start up the cops-against-racers war yet again. I hope you're ready for some more action.
As always, we'll be doing the usual variety of Hot Pursuit events, but just to mix up things a little, if attendance gets weak at any point, I might throw in a normal race or two, just for achievement purposes. Accept my apologies in advance if you already have that achievement and you're part of a smaller lobby.
Oh, and clicking the right stick! Let us all strive harder to do that more often, shall we? Regardless, I hope to see you around 9:00 PM EST for some good NFS: Hot Pursuit action.
