Nekopara Vol.1 is a visual novel developed by NEKO WORKs and localized by Sekai Project. It is a notable title because it is one of the first small studio visual novels to be released on the same day in English as it was in the original Japanese. Nekopara was successfully Greenlit on Steam via Steam Greenlight's community-driven voting process. The Steam version of the game offers an all-ages version of the title while other locations offer an adults-only version, albeit still censored as the R-18 version is being distributed by NEKO WORKs and not Sekai Project and thus must still abide by Japan's censorship laws.
The game is set in a world where cats have been genetically engineered into catgirls. The story follows the main character Kashou Minaduki as he opens a patisserie on his own only to have two of his pet catgirls arrive at his shop to stay.
Nekopara Vol.1 is a "kinetic visual novel" in that the only player interaction is clicking or pressing the space bar to advance the dialogue. There is no player choice involved at all and the story will play out exactly the same every time through the game. Dialogue can be set to automatically advance at the end of a spoken line or advanced at the player's discretion. All characters are fully voiced except for the main character.
